Twitch & YouTube Gamers Are Growing Up and Their Personal Lives Are in the Spotlight Too

Tons of content creators have found success on the Internet, especially when it comes to streaming video games on platforms like YouTube and Twitch. Early adopters of the format, in particular, have amassed millions of followers and sponsorship opportunities, to the point where some actually stream as a full-time job.

As content creators grow their channels and take on more opportunities, the effects on their personal lives become increasingly apparent. Their visibility also makes them subject to the same kind of attention that Hollywood celebrities get — meaning for highly successful streamers, their personal lives are just as much in the spotlight as their streams.

Much of the coverage surrounding streaming centers on controversies and negative events. However, plenty of creators have experienced positive change as a result of their streaming content. Here are just a few worth highlighting.

The first female content creator to join 100 Thieves, Valkyrae really started to blow up in YouTube and Twitch popularity thanks to the recent Among Us trend. She also made a name for herself streaming Fortnite.

Before her fame as a content creator, Rachell Hoffstetter was holding down three jobs in a struggle to make it through community college. Fittingly, one of those jobs was as an employee at GameStop, where her passion for video games grew and bled into her Twitch streams.

It wasn’t until she noticed a small community begin to watch her content for strictly who she was, that she decided to quit her jobs and stream on Twitch full time for close to three years. She also struggled openly with familial issues, including her father’s alcoholism and cancer. When he passed, Valkyrae used the money she earned from streaming to help take care of her parents. Through streaming, Valkyrae became the bread winner of her family. Her viewers were astounded that her glowing personality had survived upon learning these things, and she now continues to grow as a content creator.

Mohammad “Moe” Abdalrhman, aka Yassuo, is a 21 year-old Twitch streamer who is primarily a star League Of Legends player. Though he only recently joined the eSports organization 100 thieves, his success started long before that. Moe was once like every college freshman from New York City struggling to find what he wanted to do with his life, while working less than minimum wage at a law firm. It was only when he started noticing the success he was gaining from his Twitch channel that he decided to drop out of college after one semester and stream full-time.

His reputation led to him having many partnerships and sponsorships at a young age. He’s often invited to compete in Twitch Rivals and hosts his own tournaments with a Doritos partnership. He also competed in the League Champion Ships and has a net worth of $1.6 million. Yassuo has moved from his family home in New York to live in Los Angeles.

Pokimane

Imane Anys, better known as Pokimane, is one of the most popular Twitch streamers on the platform. Her content is wholesome and relaxed thanks to her nonchalant attitude. Similar to Yassuo, Pokimane also picked up streaming in college, but dropped out in 2013 to pursue streaming full-time. Her popularity is mainly due to her allowing her viewers to get to know her as a person. She’s a variety streamer who creates makeup tutorials, gaming and other lifestyle content. She is most notable for her streams of League Of Legends and Fortnite.

Pokimane moved from Canada to live in Los Angeles with her friends as a part of Offline TV. This led to her channel growing to become one of the top 100 broadcasters on Twitch. Her popularity has led to additional success in the makeup and beauty industry, with tons of sponsorships under her belt.
