Two Naruto Light Novels Get Manga Adaptations for 20th Anniversary

Jump Festa 2022 brought lots of manga and anime news, including some for Naruto. The best-selling series is in the process of celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the anime. Next year will also bring new manga adaptations for the series, though it is unknown if or when translations could be made available.

Jump Festa is an annual exposition hosted by Shueisha, publisher of numerous periodicals, including Weekly Shōnen Jump. There have been numerous announcements for anime, manga, and video games surrounding popular manga series since the event began on December 18 and ended December 19. This includes news about two new adaptations of previously published light novels for Naruto.

Naruto began serializing in Weekly Shōnen Jump back in 1999. 2020 marked the twentieth anniversary of the manga, but the celebration has not stopped – the anime will hit its twentieth anniversary next year. On Twitter, Shonen Jump News shared Naruto news from Jump Festa 2022. Two light novels will be receiving manga adaptations, which will be available on Shonen Jump+: Sasuke Retsuden Uchiha no Matsuei and Konoha Shinden Yukemuri Ninpouchou. Sasuke Retsuden will be artistically adapted by Natsuo Sai, while Konoha Shinden will be artistically adapted by Shingo Kimura. These two light novels were published in 2019 and 2016, respectively.

Back in October, VIZ Media had announced that one of these two Naruto light novels would be receiving an English translation, which would be titled, Sasuke Retsuden – Mr. and Ms. Uchiha and the Starry Heavens. It is not currently known if the manga adaptation of this novel will also be made available in languages other than Japanese. However, considering the popularity of Sasuke and the previously announced translation, it could be an eventual possibility. Natsuo Sai illustrated the manga, Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System from 2014 to 2017.

The light novel Konoha Shinden focuses on Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy, and Mirai Sarutobi. The story takes place after Kakashi has retired from being the Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. It was adapted in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and it focuses on Kakashi and Guy going on a much-needed vacation. Sasuke Retsuden stars Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura, after they are married. They are on a mission to save Naruto from sickness. This novel has not been adapted into the anime, but having it receive a manga adaptation is leaving fans hoping that it will someday be animated as well.

Both of these novels feature fan-favorite characters who have been popular since Naruto began. The novels – and this latest news – prove that even after twenty years, Naruto has a lot of stories left that can be told and revamped for readers. The first run may have ended in 2014, but Boruto: Naruto Next Generations began not long after in 2016 and is still running. The various light novels taking place in the world of Naruto have also proven to be popular, making it no surprise that fans are excited for more. Naruto is one of the best-selling manga in history, so it’s great to see Shueisha and the creative teams behind the series are still eager to provide fans with new stories and ways of enjoying them. These Naruto light novel manga adaptations will be available in 2022.
