Uncharted’s ActionPacked PostCredits Scene Explained

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Uncharted, now showing in theaters.

In the live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted, Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg’s Sully stopped Braddock and her mercenaries from getting the Magellan gold. Unfortunately, it resulted in the loot being lost in the Philippines after both treasure ships fell into the ocean. Regardless of the score, however, Nate and Sully learned they could trust each other and seem ready to finally form their brotherhood from the video games. And while the film’s conclusion didn’t reveal what the duo’s next mission would be, the post-credits scene teased more chaos to come.

The scene found Nate at an unspecified time after the events of the movie, trying to broker a deal with a mysterious man, Gage (Pilou Asbæk). Gage works for somebody who wants Nate’s ring, which his brother, Sam, left for him. It was said to be owned by Sir Francis Drake, their treasure-hunting ancestor, and valuable, but it’s still a token of Sam’s love to Nate.

Nate’s pulling a ruse on Gage, however, asking for an old Nazi map in return. Of course, as is par the course with the Uncharted franchise, Gage double-crossed Nate, taking the ring and keeping the map. But Sully burst in just as the transaction is about to end, rocking his iconic mustache. He came to save Nate, with his cat, Mr. Whiskers (given to him by Nate earlier in the film) in tow.

But more important than showing off Sully’s mustache, this scene confirmed Gage’s boss is Roman, which may be Gabriel Roman — one of the villains from the first game, which saw Nate, mentored by Sully, embark on a journey to find Sir Francis’ coffin. Nate believed it contained the map to El Dorado, and this sequence hints that Nate and Sully are headed there for their next live-action adventure.

The ever-resourceful Nate didn’t leave the scene empty-handed, however, swiping the map and stealing the ring back. But after the duo left the bar, they got stopped by a mysterious figure. They’re not happy to see that person, which implies it might be Chloe, who betrayed them earlier in the film to steal the treasure.

There’s also a chance it’s Sam who tracked them down because the mid-credits revealed he was alive and in prison, surviving being shot by Braddock after the search for the Magellan loot went awry. In the time that elapsed, it’s possible Sam escaped and found Nate and Sully, only to have a falling out with his brother. Regardless of who the mystery figure was, though, the scene promised Nate and Sully’s next adventure would be wild and unpredictable.

See how Sully and Nate’s next adventure is set up in Uncharted, now playing in theaters.
