Updated List of All PS5 Console and Controller Colors

The PlayStation 5 is arguably Sony’s most unique console. It is huge, to say the least, and it features a distinctive design that makes it stand out in any living room. When it was first revealed to the world, its design polarized gamers, and while others loved how daring the PS5’s aesthetic is, others found it far too conspicuous. Many players also dislike the color of the console. While white may be a pretty color, it is also a dirt magnet, which is even more of a problem with the white DualSense controller which can get grimy from use relatively quickly.

Gamers do not have to suffer through constantly cleaning a white Dualsense controller any longer, though, as Sony has released several different colored controllers throughout 2021. To complement these new colors, Sony also has released different faceplates which gamers can install themselves thanks to how easily removable they are from the console. With these new colorways, players can make their consoles feel unique.

New DualSense Controllers

The DualSense is a remarkable controller. It features adaptive triggers, stunning haptic feedback, and a nifty touchpad that is woefully underutilized by many games. In 2021 alone, Sony released the DualSense in five different colors. While there are still plenty of colors missing, the number of different options released thus far suggests that players can expect more variations in the future.

The first two DualSense variations were revealed in May: Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. According to Sony, the colors were chosen around the theme of “galaxy” which is something reflected in the names of the colorways. The Midnight Black is more a classic color that harkens back to the PS4 and its default black DualShock 4 controller. The Cosmic Red controller is also quite pretty, although some have complained that it looks more orange in certain lighting conditions.

In December, Sony announced that three more DualSense controller colors will be available in January 2022. The new colors are Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. All the colors look as sweet as candy and offer enough variation to please most gamers. Darker colors like Galactic Purple will also be good for those who hate the white DualSense and how much dirt it can accumulate over time.

New PS5 Faceplates

When the new DualSense colors were first announced in May, there were no faceplates to pair along with them. Hence players with a Midnight Black controller were still stuck with a white console unless they were willing to do their own customization or purchase faceplates from third-party suppliers. Fortunately, that is the case no longer, as there are five new colors available.

The five PS5 console colors available are Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. For players who want a more classic-looking console, the Midnight Black is probably the best choice. If one wants to express their personality through their console, the other available colors will do the trick.

According to Sony, the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red faceplates will be available in January 2022 in the following regions: USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines. The other three colors will also launch in those regions during the first half of 2022. Players who do not live in the listed regions can also expect the different colored faceplates and three new controllers in 2022, although Sony has yet to announce when they will arrive.

The new faceplates and controller colors provide a new way for players to make their consoles feel like their own. The possibility of mixing faceplate colors is also very exciting. However, for those who have been hoping for a hardware revision, the new faceplates may be disappointing, as they suggest that Sony will be sticking with the current PS5 console design for a while.
