Venom Rumored to Include Tom Holland’s Peter Parker Not SpiderMan

Update: Here’s the scene where Tom Holland’s Peter Parker may appear in Venom!

Tom Holland is rumored to make an appearance in Venom, but only as Peter Parker, not Spider-Man. Sony surprised fans with their development of a Venom solo movie last year to the point many didn’t believe it would happen. Venom is very much happening after snagging Tom Hardy to play the lead role of Eddie Brock. Since that announcement was made, many have been wondering how or if Venom would connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony producers said it was adjacent to the MCU, but Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige repeatedly said Venom isn’t part of his universe.

The conflicting statements only added to the confusion, and raised questions over how Venom can exist in a world without Spider-Man. Yesterday, a new rumor came out that Tom Holland will indeed appear in Venom in some capacity, a move that would instantly connect Sony’s film to the MCU. Now, more information on Holland’s potential role is here.

Following the coverage of his Venom report, Jon Schnepp clarified how Tom Holland will appear in Venom. In a new episode of Collider Heroes, Schnepp says Holland filmed for at least two days on the set of Venom to make his cameo possible. But, Holland’s presence doesn’t mean audiences will see Spider-Man in the anti-hero’s movie. According to Schnepp, Holland will appear only as Peter Parker, meaning he will not suit up. Here is exactly what he said:

Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker. Okay, so I’m not saying Spider-Man is in the film. When I say Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film, I’m saying Peter Parker is in the film.

So there you have it, Venom will reportedly feature Peter Parker but not Spider-Man. This is still not confirmed by Marvel or Sony, and it probably won’t be anytime soon – especially if it is a cameo. If this is true, the mixed signals sent by the two studios was likely a result of Sony attempting to sell their new film as part of the MCU, while Feige wanted to maintain the (assumed) surprise of Peter Parker appearing.

Even with this bit of clarity, it doesn’t reveal how Peter becomes involved. Venom is believed to largely take place in San Francisco, which is on the opposite side of the country as Peter’s hometown of Queens, New York. Unless Peter goes on another school trip, it isn’t clear how or where Peter and Eddie would meet. That said, this is assuming Holland’s cameo features him crossing paths with Hardy. Maybe he is merely used in the opening of the film and explanation of the symbiote’s arrival.

Many theorized Spider-Man could bring the symbiote back to Earth with him after Avengers: Infinity War. That could just be the case, as it gives Sony a way to connect the films, while keeping them separate enough where they don’t have to worry about interfering with the MCU timeline. However Peter factors into the story, audiences will be excited to see Holland pop up regardless. Now they’ll just have to hope this rumor is true.
