Walking Dead Universe Shows & Doctor Who Panels Set For ComicCon@Home 2021

AMC has announced its panels for this year’s Comic-Con@Home, including Doctor Who and the Walking Dead Universe shows. Even as more and more people across the country become vaccinated, San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) will remain digital this summer, with an in-person event planned for November. This comes after the success of last year’s Comic-Con@Home, which took place during the 50th anniversary of SDCC. Comic-Con started in 1970 as a comic book convention and has since grown into a massive celebration of all things geeky, with over 130,000 people visiting each year. With numbers like those, the convention runners decided that it still wasn’t safe for fans and panelists to hold the event in person.

The digital setup does not seem to have lessened the number of panels held this year, with nearly 400 panels for fans to choose from over the four-day weekend. Topics range widely from 8 panels on Disney Content to “Finance for Creatives” and “LGBTQ Comics and Popular Media for Young People.” The panels will be held online between Wednesday, July 21 and Sunday, July 25, and expect to draw in large digital crowds.

Among the hundreds of panels will be nine from AMC, which have just been announced and will include Doctor Who and The Walking Dead. AMC detailed their lineup in a press release and revealed that each panel would be uploaded exclusively onto AMC+ the day after they debut. The Walking Dead Universe takes the weekend for AMC with three panels dedicated to the shows. The first will discuss the upcoming 7th season of Fear The Walking Dead on Saturday, July 24 at 1:00 PM PT, followed by a panel about the third series within the universe, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, at 2:00 PM PT. The trifecta will finish with a panel on The Walking Dead at 3:00 PM PT to discuss the final season and include fan favorites like Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Lauren Cohan.

Also of interest is a panel on Doctor Who on Sunday, July 25 at 10:00 AM PT. In the description of the event, AMC hints that the panel will include “a very special surprise guest,” which could be the next Doctor as current Doctor Jodie Whittaker is rumored to be stepping down from the show soon. Rumors have been swirling about Whittaker’s replacement for months now as fans have looked to several actors, including It’s A Sin’s Olly Alexander and Loki’s Sophia Di Martino, as possible options. No announcements have been made yet, but Comic-Con could be the perfect time to quash (or confirm) the rumors. This will be a pre-recorded panel presented by the BBC and BBC America.

Also included in AMC’s lineup are Ultra City Smiths on July 24 at 11:00 AM PT, Creepshow on July 24 at 4:00 PM PT, and anthologies Slasher: Flesh & Blood on July 23 at 6:00 PM PT, Horror Noire on July 24 at 4:00 PM PT and V/H/S/94 on July 23 at 1:00 PM PT. For fans who want to experience Comic-Con in person, the wait is just a bit longer. There will be a smaller in-person event in November, though there is little information at this time.
