The Flash season 3 hasn’t even premiered yet, and already a great deal has been made of its reality-altering storyline, Flashpoint. The ripped-from-the-comics thread is the direct result of Barry’s grief-stricken race through time to prevent his mother’s murder at the hands of Reverse-Flash. After succeeding where he shouldn’t have, Barry returns to find the world wildly different than the one he left behind. This means the survival of Barry’s mother has had an enormous impact on the time stream, altering events and characters in remarkable ways throughout the Arrowverse.

While it’s still too early to tell exactly how Flashpoint will affect other shows in The CW’s lineup, there have been hints here and there that Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl will feel the ripples of Barry’s meddling. While fans wait to see how the other shows handle their reality being altered, The Flash has made it the focal point of its season 3 marketing. Not only has the series teased the ramifications on Dr. Wells, Iris and Barry’s relationship, and even Jay Garrick, but it has also been releasing featurettes wherein supporting players discuss how their characters will be changed when the series returns.

Recently, Carlos Valdes revealed how Cisco has gone from geeky tech-genius and villain-namer to a “snot-nosed” billionaire who loves to skip the commute with a little early morning helicopter ride. The interview provides a succinct introduction to an entirely new interpretation of Cisco, one that will likely be fodder for many an internet meme when the new season kicks off. And while Cisco’s move up the corporate ladder and into an new tax bracket (in that, as a billionaire he probably doesn’t pay any) promises to give a well-liked character a taste of the good life, there’s a good chance most viewers are more excited to be introduced to Wally West’s alter ego, Kid Flash.

In another interview featurette from The CW, Keiynan Lonsdale talks about strapping on the leather outfit and becoming yet another speedster hero for Central City. As Lonsdale puts it, the transition came about faster than he expected:

“The end of last season, after the loss of his father, Barry decided to go back, change the timeline, save his mom, which changes everything. The major change, and the most obvious change for Wally, is that he’s now The Flash. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was expecting to transition into Kid Flash so soon. But because of Flashpoint, anything can happen really. So, it was just exciting. As soon as I read the script for 301, I was over the moon”

It isn’t hard to imagine the excitement of going from a supporting character with a tremendous amount of comic book history behind him to becoming a new version of the show’s title character, thanks to a little tinkering from the series’ protagonist. Obviously, Wally’s shift into the Golden (?) Speedster isn’t going to be a permanent one, as it’s already been made clear that the major ramifications of Flashpoint will only comprise a portion of the The Flash season 3 storyline. Nevertheless, the glimpse at Wally in full superhero form does give fans (and Lonsdale, probably) hope that the young West will be transitioning into his fleet-footed alter ego in the regular timeline as soon as possible. Who know, maybe Wally’s abilities will prove to be one of Flashpoint’s lingering effects when it’s all said and done.

The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4 at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13.
