Things got very complicated for the already complex reality of The Vision in the eighth episode of WandaVision. Fans learned that The Vision living in Westview is a magical construct of Wanda’s, while another has been reconstituted from his former body – the White Vision. This iteration of the character is just one version from Marvel Comics.

Not only does Vision go through a series of upgrades and enhancements in the main Marvel Universe of Earth-616, but there are also many other alternate realities and universes within the comics that provide different takes on the character that the Marvel Cinematic Universe could potentially explore.

10 Absolute Vision

Wanda Maximoff is the one acting slightly villainous in Westview at the moment, but The Vision had his own flirtation with the dark side in the comics. Or so it seemed. In the Absolute Vision storyline in Avengers #251 and #253-254: by writer Roger Stern and penciller Bob Hall, Vision takes over all the world’s computers.

In the course of the story, he would develop some dramatic new looks, including a very spiky costume that screamed supervillain. It’s eventually revealed this is an attempt to stave off a third world war. This story ultimately led to his dismantling in the Vision Quest storyline in West Coast Avengers, where White Vision first appeared.

9 Red Vision

Red Vision is very unlikely to appear on screen in the MCU, though with the multiverse concept proliferating in both the MCU and DCEU franchises, anything is possible.

Red Vision is actually a product of Amalgam Comics, a huge DC/Marvel crossover in the 90s. Classic characters from both companies merged into one. Red Vision is an amalgam of Vision and Red Tornado. He officially hails from Earth-9602 and was a member of the Judgement League Avengers.

8 Earth X Vision

There are a lot of possibilities opened by the multiverse for the MCU. One possible world the franchise could explore is Earth X. The Earth X version of Vision is from another alternate reality, Earth-9997.

He is the lone survivor of the Avengers after they are killed by the Absorbing Man. He then became the leader of the Iron Avengers, a team of drones Tony Stark modeled after his fallen teammates. Among them was the Scarlet Witch, who in this alternate future fell in battle against the Absorbing Man.

7 MC2

Another alternate future timeline the comics explored is the MC2 universe. In this timeline, Vision is an advisor to the President of the United States. The Avengers have disbanded, but a new team, A-Next, rises to take their place. Vision becomes their leader.

A-Next, like a later team called the Young Avengers, were all analogs of the original Marvel Comics team including American Dream and Spider-Girl. A-Next is possible in the MCU but the franchise is definitely building toward Young Avengers with Wiccan and Speed in WandaVision, Riri Willians in Ironheart, and Kate Bishop in Hawkeye.

6 Ultimate Comics

The MC2 line was intended as a way for new readers to engage with classic Marvel Comics characters. So was the Ultimate Comics line, set in an alternate reality of Earth-1610. This line introduced one of the most radically different Visions in comics.

The Ultimate Vision was woman and modeled heavily on Maria from the 1927 classic sci-fi film Metropolis, one of the oldest movies on the IMDb Top 250 list. She plays a very different role in the Ultimate line, warning of the coming of Gah Lak Tus, the Eater of Worlds.

5 Mainframe

The Mainframe version of Vision appears in the far-distant future of the Guardians Of The Galaxy. He has evolved to become the central operating computer system for an entire planet. He would join an offshoot of the team, the Galactic Guardians, in Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #2 in 1992, written by Jim Valentino and drawn by Herb Trimpe.

This version of the team was originally set in a different continuity from the main Marvel comics. The version of the team movie fans know didn’t debut until 2008.

4 Exiles

The Exiles are a dimension-hopping team of superheroes in the comics that stands a fair chance of appearing in the MCU with the multiverse now a factor. The Vision that appeared in Exiles wasn’t the friendly hero from Earth-616. This Vision was a violent villain who battled the Exiles to a standstill.

Vision never reforms and sees the light. He’s ultimately destroyed along with the rest of the planet Earth when Magneto sends a metal-rich asteroid into it.

3 Anti-Vision

Characters from other timelines often intrude on the main Marvel universe. This happened with the Anti-Vision. He’s a different iteration of the character from an alternate reality who replaces the main Vision unbeknownst to the other Avengers.

This Vision is essentially all yellow in color, except for the red diamond motif. He betrays and attacks the Avengers on the part of the villain Proctor, an evil alternate version of the Black Knight (soon to appear in the MCU in the Eternals movie), who first appears in Avengers #344.

2 Marvel 2099

Marvel 2099 provides another alternate future for Marvel, this one a century ahead of where current continuity was at the time. This is also another version of The Vision that is a woman.

She isn’t an android or synthezoid, but a precognitive human who Iron Man 2099 uses to identify potential threats. In that way, she is very similar to the precogs of Minority Report, one of the best Tom Cruise movies. The 2099 line didn’t last long but did spawn one of the many popular alternate versions of Spider-Man, Miguel O’Hara.

1 Young Avengers

Though Young Avengers takes place in the main Marel continuity, this is essentially a new version of Vision. The Vision had been dismantled and his mind was erased during the Vision Quest storyline.

For years, he was an automaton with little feeling or memory. His memories gradually resurfaced, and he received a brand-new upgraded synthezoid body after the previous version was destroyed during the Fear Itself storyline. This version of Vision – new and improved – stands the best chance of appearing in the MCU if the character continues to appear.
