What Among Us New Content Updates Will Be

The popular social deduction game, Among Us, will be adding new content that fans can expect to see in the near future. Released in 2018, the online multiplayer title exploded within the last few months among mobile and PC gamers alike, and the developers at InnerSloth have recently announced what changes are coming to this space-themed game.

During a time when many are staying at home and avoiding crowds, Among Us has permeated its way into millions of gaming circles as a great online outlet for social interaction. Players are randomly assigned the role of Crewmate or Imposter with the former’s goal being to detect the latter while completing tasks and trying to stay alive. Impostors try to blend in and deflect blame while stealthily killing off Crewmates.

A small team of three developers are credited for making such a simple yet entertaining game, and they had recently disclosed plans for a sequel near the end of August 2020. This is largely due to the complications of implementing new content into the original’s outdated codebase. They’ve since switched gears and decided to put all their effort into enhancing their current success. This announcement was accompanied by exactly what additions are coming “on the horizon.”

New Content Coming In Among Us’s Next Update

The main changes involve improving technical problems. There’s still quite a few server issues in Among Us that the team hopes to snuff out. Because of the challenges involved in working with the original code, this is expected to take up a majority of the development time. Despite these problems, fans keep coming back, and the future looks even brighter for Among Us once it can be played more seamlessly. The team also aims to make the game more accessible by adding colorblind support such as other player identifiers besides color. Currently, some tasks like fixing wires solely rely on matching cords of the same color, which can leave those with a color vision deficiency at an unfair advantage. This update will also likely include a bigger color palette for players in general.

A highly requested feature is also being added: friend and account systems. Often players meet others in Among Us who they want to continue playing with at a later time, but don’t easily have that option within the game. Including player accounts will not only support individual communities, but also allow for profiles and a more personalized touch. The developers know this is necessary for the future of the game, but have warned this could also take some time to iron out. Still, it’s nice to know that fan voices are being heard.

The final specific announcement coming to Among Us is a new map. Currently, there are three maps available — the latest having come out last November. This is a must for those who grind the game and are potentially feeling bored with the current options. At the time of the announcement, a Henry Stickmin theme had already been chosen, based off the Newgrounds point-and-click movie-games series created by InnerSloth co-founder, Marcus Bromander, under the username Puffballs United.

The creators have not disclosed a time frame for Among Us’s new update as there is still plenty of work to do. However, they do mention that they have “LOTS of other things planned too,” and will continue to update as progress is made. It seems likely there will be more customization options, but new tasks and other features could be in store as well. Hopefully fans can experience these changes by next spring.
