What Happened To Smallvilles Green Arrow After The Show Ended

Here’s what happened to Smallville’s Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) after the series ended. The billionaire playboy who moonlighted as the Emerald Archer was one of the only DC Comics superheroes to play an integral role in Clark Kent’s journey in becoming Superman. Oliver was deeply involved in the main plot for the last three seasons of the Superman prequel series.

Oliver joined Smallville in the beginning of season 6 as a love interest for Lois Lane (Erica Durance) and a guide of sorts for Clark (Tom Welling), who still wasn’t ready to become a full-fledged superhero. He learned Clark’s secret within a day of meeting him, and evolved into one his closest allies, holding a recurring role throughout the first half of season 6, followed by a single guest-appearance in season 7. Hartley was upped to series regular in Smallville season 8, and remained a member of the main cast until the end of the series. Oliver ultimately married Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack) in season 10 and together the two watched Clark – suited up as Superman – stop Darkseid from destroying the planet.

Smallville gave a happy ending to the couple in the series finale, but the Smallville Season 11 comic extended their story. Though Oliver was active throughout his time on Smallville as the Green Arrow, he found that there was a lot less for him to do in Metropolis, as Clark kept the city safe as Superman. However, things quickly changed as threat after threat descended on the heroes. Oliver was on hand when Clark battled doppelgangers from a parallel universe, Batman, Lex Luthor, the Monitors in Smallville’s own version of Crisis on Infinite Earths, and more.

He continued to serve as a member of the Justice League (a team he formed in season 6), and engaged in epic one-on-one showdowns with Prometheus and Nightwing. Toward the end of the comic, the government put Oliver in charge of Smallville’s Outsiders, which was based on a team formed by Batman in DC Comics. Smallville’s version of the group was a task force that consisted mostly of metahuman convicts who Oliver was expected to train. Outside of his superhero career, Oliver continued to live happily with Chloe, who eventually became pregnant with their son. This child – who was named “Jonathan”, after Clark’s father – was seen in the flash-forward scene at the end of the series finale.

The Smallville Season 11 comic makes it clear that Oliver maintained an important presence in Clark’s life long after the show ended, which is true to the role he had in the TV series. Clark met Oliver at a time when he had become complacent with his life on the farm, and it was Oliver who gave a him much-needed push toward fulfilling his destiny as Superman. Thanks to Oliver, Clark finally realized that there was a whole world out there that needed him.
