What Happened To The Titans After Godzilla King of the Monsters

Godzilla defeated Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and took control of the Titans, so what are the Titans doing now that they have a new alpha? Ghidorah and Mothra are dead, but Godzilla and Rodan are still alive, along with a long list of Titans – well over a dozen have recently been set free – who are confirmed to exist in the MonsterVerse.

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, eco-terrorists led by Jonah (Charles Dance) made a dangerous mistake when they used a device called the Orca to wake up the MonsterVerse’s Titans in the hopes that they could reverse the damage done to the planet by human civilization. Their plan went wrong when they woke up King Ghidorah, who proceeded to awaken all the known Titans. The eco-terrorists failed to realize that Ghidorah was an alien who cared nothing about preserving the natural order. Chaos ensued, with the three-headed monster assuming the role of alpha. Thankfully, Godzilla – with a little help from Mothra – was able to defeat Ghidorah.

With Ghidorah dethroned, Godzilla became the new King of the Monsters. This became clear when Rodan bowed down in a show of respect to Godzilla. Four other Titans (Methuselah, Scylla, Behemoth, and the third M.U.T.O.) arrived on the scene and formed a circle around Godzilla. Following Rodan’s example, the Titans bowed to Godzilla. This was a symbolic ending for King of the Monsters, as it revealed that the Titans of the MonsterVerse had a new king to follow. But what happened to them after Ghidorah’s defeat?

Godzilla Is Keeping The Titans Out of Trouble

What Happened To The Titans After Godzilla King of the Monsters

Through a series of newspaper articles and headlines, the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters dropped plenty of details about what came next for the MonsterVerse. These news items address how the Titans have affected the environment, Monarch’s new mission, and also tease what the Titans are currently up to in the MonsterVerse. To some, the ending of King of the Monsters may have suggested that civilization would be in peril, considering that so many Titans are now on the loose, but one article puts any such fear to rest. The article reveals that Godzilla is keeping the Titans in line by making sure they don’t attack any cities.

Unlike Ghidorah, Godzilla is following the natural order and doing his job to make sure the world stays in balance. He’s able to accomplish this by keeping a tight leash on his new minions. This makes it clear that Rodan and the four Titans who are seen surrounding Godzilla at the end of King of the Monsters aren’t the only Titans now following Godzilla’s orders. What this means for the future of the MonsterVerse is that the world won’t be in chaos with a dozen Titans running amok when they are seen again in Godzilla vs. Kong.

Some Titans Are Going Back Into Hibernation

What Happened To The Titans After Godzilla King of the Monsters

King Ghidorah waking up all the Titans doesn’t mean that all 18 of the remaining Titans are now running loose in the MonsterVerse. Some have gone back into hibernation. One headline reveals that that the Titans are returning to their natural environments, which suggests that many have gone back to their old homes. Specifically, Rodan, is also back in hibernation, but not in the same place he was at the beginning of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Rodan, who previously lived in the Isla de Mara volcano in Mexico, has now taken up roost in a volcano north of Fiji in the South Pacific.

These Titans going back to familiar territory indicates that for at least part of the world, things will go back to normal. This also suggests that these Titans may have removed themselves from the equation for Godzilla vs. Kong. If they’re back in hibernation, then they won’t be on hand for whatever threat that Godzilla is faced with in the upcoming movie, whether it be Kong, Mechagodzilla, a mystery Titan, or a combination of all three. In any case, this limits the number of allies Godzilla will have in the near future.

Titans Are Headed To Skull Island

One of the credits’ most noteworthy reveals comes from the headline, “New Titans Drawn to Skull Island?” which opens up all sorts of questions about Godzilla vs. Kong. It’s no secret that Kong’s home has one of the main entry points into the Hollow Earth tunnels, so it makes sense for the Titans to eventually find their way to Skull Island. Traveling through Hollow Earth could bring the Titans straight into an encounter with the King of Skull Island himself, Kong. The credits label Skull Island as an “epicenter for Titan sightings,” which implies more than just one or two Titans have set their sights on Skull Island. If enough Titans head to Kong’s home, it could essentially become the MonsterVerse’s version of Monster Island from the Toho movies. In the classic Godzilla movies, Monster Island was a place occupied by Godzilla, Rodan, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, and more.

As for why some of the Titans are “drawn” to Skull Island, the answer to this question isn’t clear. Is Godzilla letting them go to Skull Island, or is it possible that it was Godzilla himself who sent them? It could be that the Titans have detected something peculiar about Skull Island and are using the Hollow Earth tunnels to investigate. Alternatively, it could be that these Titans are acting on their own. After all, Kong may not necessarily be the only Titan who didn’t accept Godzilla as the alpha; some may be acting independently of the new King of the Monsters. Regardless, the Titans’ trip to Skull Island feels like setup for Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong, which could include the violence that is soon to erupt between the two titular Titans in Godzilla vs. Kong. If rogue Titans cause trouble on Skull Island, it may be up to Godzilla to head there and put a stop to it.
