What Rainn Wilson Has Done Since The Office

It’s been years since The Office came to an end on NBC but Rainn Wilson’s career has yet to slow down. The actor portrayed the fan-favorite character Dwight Schrute for all nine seasons of the sitcom before it came to an end in 2013. Before Wilson was cast in the workplace comedy in 2005, he already had a prominent presence in TV and movies. After making his start in One Life to Live, Wilson appeared in shows such as Charmed, Monk, Six Feet Under, and Entourage. As for movies, Wilson had roles in Galaxy Quest, Almost Famous, and House of 1000 Corpses.

Working on The Office didn’t stop Wilson from pursuing other gigs in TV and movies. He hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live and had cameo roles in Reno 911! and Family Guy. The same year that The Office debuted, Wilson appeared in the action-comedy, Sahara. In the years that followed, the actor had roles in notable films like My Super Ex-Girlfriend, The Last Mimzy, Juno, The Rocker, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

After The Office concluded, Wilson continued to star in both TV and movies. In 2014, Wilson joined Adventure Time to voice a number of characters, and the following year he was cast as a regular in the crime series, Backstrom. Wilson also appeared in other TV shows, including Roadies, Star Trek: Discovery, and Room 104. As for movie roles, Wilson’s body of work has stretched across all genres. He appeared in the horror-comedy Cooties, horror film The Boy, and the crime movie Shimmer Lake. He also voiced a character in Smurfs: The Lost Village in addition to voicing Lex Luthor in The Death of Superman. That same year, 2018, Wilson portrayed Jack Morris in the blockbuster hit, The Meg.

More recently, Wilson had a cameo in James Gunn’s superhero horror film, Brightburn. The movie notably starred his co-star from The Office, David Denman. Wilson also returned to voice Lex Luthor for two projects that debuted this year: Reign of the Supermen and Batman: Hush. In addition to those 2019 projects, Wilson had a short stint on the CBS comedy Mom, starring Anna Faris and Allison Janey.

The former star of The Office was last seen in the drama film, Blackbird, which made its premiere at TIFF. The movie, directed by Roger Michell, also starred Kate Winslet, Mia Wasikowska, Susan Sarandon, and Sam Neil. It will hopefully be scheduled for a wider release in the near future. Aside from Blackbird, Wilson is set to star in the Amazon series, Utopia, based on British series of the same name and with scripts written by Gillian Flynn.
