The Pokémon Trading Card Game’s latest expansion, Evolving Skies, was released at the end of August, featuring a collection of revamped Dragon-type Pokémon and Eeveelutions. While collectors may be pursuing other expensive prizes within Evolving Skies, competitive players should focus on obtaining three Eeveelutions before the collection leaves stores. Each Eeveelution VMAX brings something new to the game, but several are exponentially more effective in battle than their fellow evolutions.
Evolving Skies features all eight Eevee evolutions; Jolteon, Flareon, Vaporeon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon. Each Eeveelution has stunning art, full-art, or alternative art that increases their value depending on the version collected. Their abilities and attacks all feature additional buffs and substantial damage, but some offer more effectiveness in battle than others. Trainers looking to improve the power level of their Evolving Skies decks should search for three Eeveelutions in particular.
Sylveon VMAX is a valuable addition to Evolving Skies decks, sporting its Precious Touch to heal 120 damage from a Benched Pokémon. Like Umbreon VMAX, this ensures that its player will have viable Pokémon to use in battle if Sylveon VMAX is defeated. Sylveon also features the Max Harmony attack, which increases its damage based on how many different types of Benched Pokémon there are. Sylveon VMAX is an excellent addition to any multi-type deck and should be used in battle during the mid-game to make the most of its abilities.
Evolving Skies’ Glaceon VMAX And Umbreon VMAX Sustain Evolutions
Glaceon VMAX’s Crystal Veil ability prevents all damage by opposing VMAX Pokémon, except by another Glaceon VMAX. This ability prevents an opponent from using a VMAX as their Active Pokémon until Glaceon is defeated. Glaceon’s ability makes it the most powerful Eeveelution. V and VMAX Pokémon have become prevalent in Pokémon TCG matches since their introduction in the Sword & Shield collection. Players seeking to force their opponents to retreat their VMAX Pokémon, or buy more time to upgrade Benched Pokémon, should look to add Glaceon VMAX to their decks as soon as possible.
Umbreon VMAX’s Dark Signal ability features a supportive mechanic that allows players to evolve a Benched Pokémon. Evolution is a core mechanic in Pokémon games and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. By implementing Umbreon VMAX into a deck build, players can more efficiently power up Pokémon in their hand. Dark Signal also allows players to switch one of their opponent’s Benched Pokémon with their Active Pokémon. Dark Signal gives an immediate advantage in battle and will allow players to control the flow of the match or drain their opponent’s resources to force Active Pokémon to retreat.
Evolving Skies features many powerful Pokémon, but players should focus their energy on collecting Sylveon, Glaceon, and Umbreon VMAX for their decks. Each Eeveelution’s abilities and attacks combine to support and prolong a player’s dominance in battle while continuously buffing Benched Pokémon before they become Active.
