Created by Jackie Thorne, the musical drama series follows an American in Paris who attempts to look after his family, both literally and figuratively, while fending off local gangsters. The Eddy season 1 released in May 2020, and was co-produced/co-directed by La La Land filmmaker Damien Chazelle.

In The Eddy season 1, renowned jazz-man Elliot Udo (André Holland) runs the eponymous Parisian nightclub featuring a vocalist named Maja (Joanna Kulig), among other working musicians. When Elliot’s 16-year-old daughter, Julie (Amandla Stenberg), relocates to Paris from New York City, past issues quickly come to the forefront. Life becomes especially difficult for The Eddy employees when gangsters threaten the club’s future, both through deadly violence and also through symbolic violence. The Eddy season 1 on Netflix culminates with Elliot preparing for his first performance in four years while dealing with the possibility that Julie could move back to America.

What To Expect From The Eddy Season 2

Despite the big names attached to The Eddy season 1, the first batch of episodes have received mixed reviews. Still, that doesn’t mean Netflix won’t renew The Eddy for season 2, but an official decision probably won’t be announced until three-to-six weeks after the initial series premiere on May 8, 2020. Expect Netflix to either cancel the series or greenlight The Eddy season 2 before July 2020.

Because of COVID-19 and the uncertain future of the cast and crew, it doesn’t seem likely that The Eddy season 2 would begin production in the near future, if ordered. The initial season consists of eight hour-long episodes, and Netflix will likely keep the same format moving forward. Assuming that The Eddy season 2 does happen, expect filming and post-production to take place in 2021. New episodes will theoretically premiere in May 2022, at least if there’s any interest in making The Eddy anything more than a limited series.

The Eddy Season 2 Story Details

The Eddy season 1 on Netflix does indeed set up a second season, but could also be viewed as a one-and-done production. Elliot and Julie grow closer together during a much-anticipated performance, one that concludes with The Eddy’s main office being bombed. After Elliot chooses to essentially go undercover with unofficial backing from the police, he must simply wait it out during the repair process. And so The Eddy season 1 concludes with the group of musicians joking around and singing together in the streets. Elliot smiles like he’s experienced a re-awakening.

If The Eddy season 2 is produced, the storyline will seemingly focus on Elliot regaining his musical mojo while Julie continues to adapt to Parisian life. The lingering threat will be more violence, of course, but The Eddy now has proper financing and legitimate protection, courtesy of its mobbed-up hidden parter, Sami. In The Eddy season 2 on Netflix, Elliot will need to consider his legacy beyond music.
