Which Halo Infinite Modes Players Will Have To Wait Until 2022 For

Halo Infinite, the next entry in the famed FPS franchise, promises to continue the story of iconic protagonist Master Chief and is delivering the first-ever free-to-play Halo multiplayer. Unfortunately, Halo Infinite has had a rather troubled development, and the most recent knock to its release is the delay of two series-staple game modes into 2022.

The troubles began when Halo Infinite lost several key developers, and its 2020 gameplay reveal was then widely ridiculed for its subpar graphics. Shortly after the ill-received showcase, developer 343 Industries officially delayed the game into 2021. Work on Halo Infinite has seemingly progressed steadily since then, with multiple “flight tests” giving players a chance to try its multiplayer component. Following the delay, 343 let the community know a holiday 2021 release window was the plan, and Xbox’s Gamescom 2021 presentation finally confirmed a release date of December 8, 2021.

The long-awaited Halo Infinite release date reveal was bittersweet, though, as just days prior, 343 announced the game would be launching incomplete. It was already confirmed Halo Infinite would be adopting a live-service model to deliver incremental content updates, but it came as a surprise to many that both Campaign Co-op and Forge will be releasing at later dates. The campaign will still be playable in single-player at release, and multiplayer will be available on launch day as well.

Halo Infinite Modes Delayed To 2022: Campaign Co-op

Which Halo Infinite Modes Players Will Have To Wait Until 2022 For

Ever since Combat Evolved, Halo campaigns have been playable with two or more people, either through split-screen or online. Halo Infinite will do the same, but it’s going to take a while before that functionality becomes available. 343 expects Campaign Co-op to launch at the beginning of season two. Each Halo Infinite season will last about three months, and season one begins on launch day. Players, then, can expect Campaign Co-op to debut sometime around March 2022, unless 343 announces otherwise.

Halo Infinite Modes Delayed To 2022: Forge

A level editor that lets players create custom maps using in-game assets and custom multiplayer rulesets, Forge originated in Halo 3 and has done wonders for each subsequent entry’s longevity. Halo 5’s Forge was the most advanced, and Halo Infinite will likely iterate on it further, but current post-launch plans have Forge releasing alongside the multiplayer’s third season, roughly six months after the base game drops.

The delay of two major Halo Infinite modes is likely a blow to many fans’ excitement, but even the game’s pre-release multiplayer gameplay has been some of 2021’s best. It’s unfortunate it will launch feature-incomplete, but the prospect of a new Halo before the year is over is at least partial consolation. The campaign and the ever-popular multiplayer mode will have to be enough to keep Halo Infinite players satisfied for the time being.
