Who is Narutos Adopted Son Kawaki in Boruto

To know Kawaki is to know a life of undeniable tragedy and pain. Naruto himself was no stranger to a difficult childhood, having grown up mistrusted and isolated in his hometown of the Hidden Leaf Village, born with a powerful Nine-Tailed Fox Demon sealed inside him. However, Kawaki’s power is tied directly to the abuse, trauma, and cruelty he was subjected to as a child. Already having grown up in an abusive household by his drunken father, Kawaki’s thoughts of salvation after having been bought and adopted by the former monk Jigen, quickly turned into a living nightmare. While Naruto was born with innate chakra powers due to the spirit inside him, Kawaki was subjected to horrid experimentation meant to turn him into a suitable vessel for the essence of Isshiki Otsutsuki, a celestial being who had already taken over Jigen’s mind and body. As one of fifteen children placed in artificial wombs designed to transfer the essence of Isshiki Otsutsuki, Kawaki was the only survivor. Now branded with a Kama on his left hand, which contained vast amount of chakra energy, Jigen then put Kawaki through grueling physical training in order to turn him into the perfect vessel. Kawaki even underwent extensive surgery, having nanotechnology implanted into his body so it can be modified to superhuman levels of strength and power.

It would be later that Kawaki would run into Naruto, now an adult with a wife (Hinata) and children (Boruto and Himawari), and his new responsibilities as the new Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. After Kawaki survived a blimp crash in the Land of Fire, and following a harrowing battle, it was discovered by Team 7 (of which Boruto was a member) that the mark on Kawaki’s hand was similar to a Kama of Boruto’s hand. It was decided that Kawaki would be under the care of the Uzamaki family, where Naruto would act as his new adoptive father. For Kawaki, who had only known suffering at that hands of different father-figures, this relationship was rocky, to say the least. Kawaki’s time under Naruto’s care resulted in numerous attempts of running away from home, and violent outbursts caused by either small disagreements or traumatic flashbacks of his time as Jigen’s laboratory rat.

In spite of these growing pains, Kawaki and Boruto began to develop a friendship that soon became a form of brotherhood. The two of them, along with Naruto, would face down Isshiki Otsutsuki and eventually destroy him and the body of Jigen that he inhabited. But it presented itself with a new danger. Could Isshiki Otsutsuki be reborn within Kawaki? This wasn’t the case, as Isshiki was reborn in a different (albeit less powerful) body. However it still meant that Kawaki would be a target as the celestial being still considered Kawaki his perfect new body.

Still, even with that victory, something had gone terribly wrong. A sudden flash forward three years later shows Boruto and Kawaki facing down each other in the ruins of Hokage Mountain. With Kawaki swearing to end the era of shinobi forever.
