Who Is Zorri Bliss Keri Russells Star Wars 9 Character Explained

Keri Russell is playing a character named Zorri Bliss in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, according to recently released details. The movie will be the final installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy and the official end of the Skywalker saga. J.J. Abrams is back in the director’s chair for the closing chapter arriving this December, and he’s brought along a handful of new actors and actresses along for the ride, including Russell.

After the death of Luke Skywalker, the Resistance must pull themselves together to once again face off with the First Order in The Rise of Skywalker. The tension between the Jedi and the Sith will also finally come to a head. Rey, Finn, Poe, and the rest of the Resistance forces will come together to fight for the galaxy. Kylo Ren still has his sights set on Rey after she refused his offer to join him. He also has his Knights of Ren back on his side, but that shouldn’t be the Resistance’s only worry. As revealed in the first teaser trailer, Emperor Palpatine is back.

The Rise of Skywalker might be the last time viewers will see some of their favorite Star Wars characters on the big screen. It’s Carrie Fisher’s last film appearance due to her death in 2016, and her role was put together using archive footage from The Force Awakens. Of course, The Rise of Skywalker also introduces a number of new characters, one of which is played by Russell. But how these new faces will affect the outcome of the Skywalker saga is a question that remains to be answered. For now, here’s everything we know about Russell’s new Star Wars character.

Keri Russell Plays Zorri Bliss In Star Wars 9

Russell joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX at the end of July 2018. In typical Star Wars fashion, most of the information surrounding the movie was kept under lock and key, including details regarding new characters. It wasn’t until Star Wars Celebration 2019 that the title, The Rise of Skywalker, was released along with the first trailer. And then, revealed within the Vanity Fair cover story in late May, Russell will be playing a new character named Zorri Bliss.

The character of Zorri Bliss is described as a rogue. Like most scoundrels and bounty hunters in the galaxy, rogues don’t take sides in the intergalactic conflicts. Figures like Zorri tend to hide in the outermost sections of the galaxy to avoid the war, and they make decisions that benefit themselves rather than risking their lives for groups of strangers. Zorri is being compared to Benicio Del Toro’s character, DJ, who made an appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The master codebreaker initially helped Finn and Rose but ultimately chose to save himself when the trio was caught by Captain Phasma.

That’s not to say that Zorri Bliss will double cross the Resistance in some way. She will undoubtedly encounter core characters from the first two movies, but if the war between the Resistance and the First Order gets out of hand in the eyes of Zorri, she may pick a side. As for the other new faces to join Star Wars alongside Russell, it’s a little more clear which sides those characters fight for. Richard E. Grant is playing First Order officer Allegiant General Pryde while Naomi Ackie is portraying Jannah, a woman who comes in contact with Rey, Finn, and Poe.

Zorri Bliss’ Star Wars 9 Costume

Russell kept most details about her Star Wars role under wraps but she has stated that she believes her character has one of the coolest costumes. By the looks of the image reveal, the actress was absolutely correct. Zorri’s costume features a deep purple, wine-colored suit adorned with brass and rose gold accents on her arms, chest, and waist. Her masked helmet even matches the same chrome color. There also seems to be some sort of weapon holster on her hip attached to a thick textured belt.

Zorri’s helmet is clearly designed to mask her face. The design of the helmet closely resembles that of a classic bounty hunter. Of course, the most notable bounty hunters that wore a similar helmet would be Boba Fett and his father, Jango. Zorri’s look might remind some viewers of a lesser known hunter, Zam Wesell. The female bounty hunter didn’t wear the same type of helmet, but she did wear a purple outfit in a similar color compared to Zorri. Zam was a shapeshifter who often took the appearance as a human. She was hired by Jango Fett to kill Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. It’s very possible that Zorri Bliss has a connection to Zam and honors her with the costume.

Zori Bliss Is In The Thieves’ Quarter On Kijimi

A number of new planets will be introduced in The Rise of Skywalker. With the image of Zorri Bliss, viewers get their first look at a new planet, Kijimi. Not much is known about snowy planet but it’s said to be covered in mountainous regions. The most memorable snow covered planet that previously made an appearance in Star Wars would be Hoth. It was the location of an important battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Imperial army in The Empire Strikes Back.

Considering Kijimi is the home of the Thieves’ Quarter, it seems probable that the planet resides in the outer rim of the universe. Since scoundrels and rogues like to stay out of the conflict, they wouldn’t pick a location in close proximity to the warzone. There aren’t many details about the Thieves’ Quarter but rogues are no stranger to taking safe haven in hangouts. They tend to take refuge in cantinas such as the one in Mos Eisley. It attracts shady characters and Thieves’ Quarter is probably no different since the name seems self-explanatory.

It’s also possible that the Thieves’ Quarter is more similar to Maz Kanata’s castle. She used the castle to host passing smugglers and travelers as long as they followed her rules. The Thieves’ Quarter could be a facility to house travelers of a more dangerous clientele. It will be interesting to see how Zorri Bliss and the planet of Kijimi comes into play with the Resistance’s efforts to take down the First Order, but we’ll have to wait until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker releases to find out.
