Why Amazon Games New World Reactions Are So Mixed

Amazon is getting ready to release New World this year, yet reactions to the game have been mixed so far. The company gave players a taste of the game at the PC Gaming Show recently and provided more details into what gameplay experience will look like, and some found it overall disappointing.

The new multiplayer online role-playing game takes inspiration from popular titles like World of Warcraft. New World’s story revolves around the mystical island of Aeternum and takes place during the Age of Exploration. Players have the chance to explore the island’s surroundings and encounter strange creatures and deadly foes. The game has gauged a lot of interest for what its massive battles will look like, as Amazon claims the title will allow 100 players to battle against each other. New World will require players to combine their skills and strategies in order to create winning moves.

As intriguing as the game sounds, so far it hasn’t been as positively reviewed as one may expect. With the release of new gameplay footage, gamers were able to get a better sense of what Amazon’s New World will look and feel like, and it doesn’t sound like the majority of viewers were impressed. Gamers may still be reeling from the disaster that was Amazon’s Crucible or it could be that Amazon simply didn’t learn from Crucible’s mistakes. Either way, New World has a big role to fill and its success (or lack thereof) could have ramifications for Amazon’s future in gaming.

New World May Be Repeating Crucible’s Mistakes

Amazon has had a difficult time breaking into the video game industry, which means a lot more is weighing on the launch of New World than an ordinary release. Crucible debuted in May of this year, but only a month later the game is being touted as a failure. The player-versus-player game has been accused of being too boring and slowly-paced, but what all the reviews seem to have in common is that they unanimously have declared this game a flop.

Because of this, a lot is riding on the launch of Amazon’s New World. But despite the title (and the game’s big-budget) there doesn’t seem to be a lot new about it. In fact, if players were to critique the graphics and gameplay, they may say this game looks like it came out years ago – not at the end of the current generation of consoles. Although the New World: Aeternum Awaits trailer that was posted to Play New World’s YouTube channel six months ago seemed to have promising graphics, a more recent video that was uploaded on June 13th showing off the title’s gameplay seemed choppy and cheap.

In fact, the newer teaser seems like a significant downgrade in terms of quality compared to earlier snippets released from the game. As the industry moves towards next-gen consoles, which promise to be released by the holiday season of this year, players are expecting crystal clear graphics and smoother gameplay than ever before. Even though New World will only be released for PC, the latest gameplay trailer isn’t providing much hope for stellar graphics. The fact that the New World’s release was also delayed made gamers hopeful it was done in order to further develop the game. However, the lackluster graphics and gaming experience currently on display makes it seem like that wasn’t the case. There hasn’t even been much revealed about the game’s story yet, something which many players would like to know before deciding whether to purchase the title.

For these reasons, it’s no wonder the reactions to New World are mixed, making its release one of both speculation and concern.
