Here’s why Hulk didn’t get his rematch with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. The strongest Avenger jumped into action in Avengers: Infinity War last year to try and stop Thanos from further slaying those left on the Asgardian ship, but he quickly found out that he was in over his head. He got a few good punches in on the Mad Titan, but then Thanos took matters into his own hands. Thanos quickly dispatched Hulk, without using any power from an Infinity Stone, and sent Hulk spiraling.

Hulk was never seen again in Avengers: Infinity War after this loss. Some believe that his refusal to come out was a direct result of suffering his first defeat, but those creatively involved with the film say this is not the case. Hulk’s refusal to play the hero was because he was tired of being used in this capacity. Either way, viewers were hoping to see Hulk get a rematch with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, but one never came. Hulk rarely got involved with the action at all, as Bruce Banner managed to merge his brains with Hulk’s brawn and create Professor Hulk.

The new iteration of Hulk is partially the reason behind Hulk and Thanos not getting a rematch in Avengers: Endgame. As we’ll discuss in the latest Screen Rant video dedicated to the biggest movie of the year, there are a few different reasons why Hulk and Thanos never fought again. Check out the video at the top of this post for all the details.

Banner viewing Hulk’s smashing tendencies as gratuitous is one of the reasons why a rematch may never have happened, but it’s also because Hulk is in no position to challenge the Mad Titan when he can in the movie. Banner uses the Hulkbuster armor to hold down Thanos so they can chop his hand off early in the film, but this also results in Thor decapitating the Mad Titan. Thanos is out of the picture until the very end, and by that point, reversing Thanos’ first snap permanently damaged Hulk’s entire right arm. Banner’s mindset and a weaker Hulk would easily give Thanos the upper hand, so it was smart of him not to try and play hero this way.

Some viewers may be disappointed that Hulk and Thanos never got this rematch, but this idea was just built up in their heads in the year-long wait between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The previous film doesn’t tease that Hulk or Banner is anxious to fight Thanos again, and there is no proper place in the latter to do so anyway. A rematch could’ve been an exciting moment for Avengers: Endgame to include, but it was for the best that one never happened.
