Will There Be A Sims 5

Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet, there is good reason to believe The Sims 5 will be definitely be released at some point in the future. If this is the case, then the only question that remains is when the game will be made available to fans of the long-running life simulation franchise.

The Sims franchise has come a long way since the first game launched in 2000. It’s been six years since The Sims 4 was released, all the way back in 2014, a length of time which has only amplified anticipation for the next entry in the series. Considering there was a five-year gap between The Sims 3 (2009) and The Sims 4 (2014), and also a five-year gap between The Sims 2 (2004) and its successor, having to wait a few years in between games isn’t uncommon for the fans.

Still, now that it’s past the typical five-year waiting period and there’s still no official news on The Sims 5, speculation surrounding the game is higher than ever. But based on what has been said about the title, it appears that the game will come to fruition eventually.

The Sims 5: Official News So Far

Immediately after The Sims 4 released, things didn’t necessarily look bright for the future of the franchise considering the game’s producer, Grant Rodiek, went on record to say that The Sims 5 wasn’t on their radar. “We’re not working on Sims 5. We’re not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn’t successful, there won’t be a Sims 5,” he wrote on the official Sims forum, though the comment has since been removed. However, The Sims 4 has been wildly successful since its 2014 launch, with new DLC being released quite regularly to appease players. So, if the developer was hoping to gauge the success of The Sims 4 before committing to a fifth installment, it seems hopeful a new game will arrive eventually.

Even more promising, however, is what Electronic Arts Executive Andrew Wilson had to say about the future of the franchise this past February. During an investment call, Wilson boasted about how far the series has come. Namely, he said that The Sims multiplayer was introduced in a time when the Internet wasn’t ready for it. But he’s confident the next generation of The Sims would benefit from introducing cross-platform play into its games. “As Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation – cross-platforms and a cloud of a neighborhood world, you should imagine while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement, motivations,” Wilson responded when asked whether developer Maxis had plans to relaunch an online version of The Sims, Metro reports. “That this notion of social interactions and competition like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims Online many, many years ago – that they will start to become a part of The Sims experience in the years to come.”

If a new Sims game debuts in the coming years, players can expect clearer graphics, smoother gameplay, and more items and opportunities to allow them to customize their Sims’ lives. There’s a lot to look forward to when it comes to the future of the franchise, and given everything that’s been said about the future of The Sims 5, it appears likely that the game will see the light of day sometime in the near future.
