Wizards Tales of Arcadias Returning Voice Cast & New Character Guide

Wizards is the third entry in Netflix and DreamWorks Animation’s Tales of Arcadia series, and it brings back much of the Trollhunters cast while also introducing brand new characters. Created by director Guillermo del Toro and loosely adapted from a book he wrote with Daniel Kraus, Tales of Arcadia’s story began with Trollhunters and continued in 3Below. Now, Wizards is the beginning of the end for the trilogy, reuniting the heroes of Arcadia for another world-ending threat.

Wizards season 1 picks up its story a little after Trollhunters season 3 and almost immediately following 3Below’s season 2 finale. The main character this time around in Douxie, a minor character from Trollhunters and 3Below who is revealed to be Merlin’s apprentice. In Wizards, he’ll team up with Jim, Claire, and Steve as they travel back in time to Camelot where they meet King Arthur and learn the truth about what really happened leading up to the Battle of Killahead Bridge.

The cast for Wizards includes not only alums from Trollhunters and 3Below, but new characters voiced by a surprising group of actors. Here’s a breakdown of who is play whom on Netflix and DreamWorks’ Wizards: Tales of Arcadia season 1.

Wizards: Tales of Arcadia’s Returning Cast

Wizards Tales of Arcadias Returning Voice Cast & New Character Guide

Colin O’Donoghue as Douxie/Hisirdoux: Originally appearing as a minor character in both Trollhunters and 3Below, Douxie is an apprentice of Merlin’s and serves as the main protagonist of Wizards. Like his mentor, Douxie hails from the age of Camelot and by the time of the Tales of Arcadia shows is roughly 900 years old. He’s a student at Arcadia Oaks Academy, works part time at GDT Arcane Books, and along with his familiar, Archie, helps to protect Arcadia from magical threats. Douxie is played by Colin O’Donoghue, an actor best known for portraying Captain Hook on ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

Alfred Molina as Archie: First appearing to Toby, AAARRRGGHH!!!, and Steve in the final minutes of 3Below season 2, Archie is Douxie’s familiar. He typically takes the form of a black cat, but can also transform into other creatures, including a dragon-form. Alfred Molina is who voices Archie, an actor with countless roles in movies, TV, and on stage, but for many it’s his turn as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 that he’s best known.

Emile Hirsch as James “Jim” Lake Jr.: After discovering his destiny as the Trollhunter in the first Tales of Arcadia series, eventually transforming into a troll himself, Jim continues to fulfill his duty as their protector. At the end of Trollhunters season 3, Jim left Arcadia with Claire, Merlin, and the rest of the trolls as they searched for a new home following Trollmarket’s destruction. Emile Hirsch has voiced Jim since season 3 of Trollhunters, having taken over the role from Anton Yelchin. Hirsch is best known for his starring role in Into the Wild and most recently appeared in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Lexi Medrano as Claire Nuñez: First appearing in Trollhunters, Claire is herself something of a sorceress-in-training thanks to the magic she picked up from her time wielding Morgana’s Shadow Staff. Since the staff’s destruction, Claire has continued to hone her magic while traveling with Jim and Merlin, and in Wizards, she’ll receive even more opportunity to develop her skills. Claire is voiced by Lexi Medrano.

Charlie Saxton as Tobias “Toby” Domzalski: Another character first introduced in Trollhunters, Toby is Jim’s best friend and wields an enchanted warhammer. When Jim and Claire leave Arcadia at the end of Trollhunters season 3, Toby stays behind with AAARRRGGHH!!! and continues protecting the town, even helping Aja and Krell in 3Below season 2. He is also present when Archie, Douxie’s familiar, first introduces himself. Toby is played by Charlie Saxton, an actor who has previously appeared in several television shows, including Hung.

Steven Yeun as Steve Palchuk: Starting out as the school bully, Steve winds up fighting alongside Jim, Toby, and Claire, even forming his own group, the Creepslayerz, with another classmate, Eli Pepperjack. While he can still behave like jerk, he’s more or less part of the team come Trollhunters season 3 and throughout 3Below (where he’s dating the alien princess, Aja). Steve returns in Wizards with an even larger role and he is again voiced by Steven Yeun, best known for his role as Glenn on The Walking Dead.

David Bradley as Merlin: Though the famous wizard is responsible for creating the Amulet of Daylight, the magical amulet that empowers the Trollhunter, Merlin doesn’t appear until Trollhunters season 3. He’ll have a big role in Wizards, however, as the name implies, helping Douxie, Jim, and Claire to protect Arcadia from its latest world-ending threat. Merlin is played by David Bradley, an actor best known for his roles as Argus Filch in the Harry Potter series, Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, and the First Doctor in Doctor Who.

Lena Headey as Morgana: Morgana served as the main antagonist of Trollhunters but was originally another apprentice of Merlin’s. Wizards will explore how she went from promising sorceress to evil villain, possibly even revealing that her downfall wasn’t as simple as it seems. Playing Morgana is Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey and the actress brings a similar delightful wickedness to the sorceress as she did the Westerosi queen.

Kelsey Grammer as Blinkous “Blinky” Galadrigal: Along with the returning humans and wizards of Tales of Arcadia’s massive cast, several trolls are also appearing in Wizards. Among them is Blinky, one of the first trolls Jim, Toby, and Claire meet in Trollhunters season 1. The multi-eyed troll knows much about troll history and lore, and helps Jim in becoming the Trollhunter. Blinky is voiced by Kelsey Grammar, an actor of many roles but none so well-known as his starring role in Frasier.

Fred Tatasciore as AAARRRGGHH!!!: Blinky’s best friend is AAARRRGGHH!!!, a troll of few words who comes from a race of trolls who prefer the deepest, darkest caverns. Originally, he served as a soldier of Gunmar’s before abandoning the warlord and moving to Trollmarket. When Merlin, Jim, Claire, and Blinky left to search for a new home, AAARRRGGHH!!! stays behind in Arcadia with his wingman, Toby, and helps Aja and Krell in their fight against General Morando. Fred Tatasciore, a prolific voice actor who’s worked on everything from Family Guy and Young Justice to most recently Star Trek: Lower Decks, is who plays AAARRRGGHH!!!.

Mark Hamill as Dictatious Galadrigal: Blinky’s brother, Dictatious, is an advisor of Gunmar’s when he’s first introduced in Trollhunters season 2, but he eventually changes sides and reunites with his brother. Similar to Morgana, Wizards will explore why Dictatious originally went bad and possibly reveal there’s more going on there. The actor voicing Dictatious, Mark Hamill, hardly needs any introduction, having risen to fame in the role of Luke Skywalker and later developing an extensive voice acting career with roles like the Joker.

Clancy Brown as Gunmar: Leader of the Gumm-Gumms, Gunmar was the main antagonist of Trollhunters prior to Morgana’s reveal. Clancy Brown plays Gunmar, a veteran actor of both screen and voice-over roles, having recently appeared in The Mandalorian and is perhaps best known for his Lex Luthor in the DC Animated Universe as well as Mr. Krabs of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Diego Luna as Prince Krel Tarron: In addition to trolls, Tales of Arcadia also involves aliens; namely, the Akiridians. Krel and his sister, Aja, are Akiridian royalty an were minor characters in Trollhunters who later starred in its follow-up, 3Below. Only Krel returns in Wizards, though, since he chose to remain in Arcadia while his sister returned to Akiridian-5 to becomes its queen in the 3Below season 2 finale. Voicing Krel is Diego Luna, the actor who plays Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and will reprise the role in an upcoming Disney+ series.

Tom Kenny as DadBlank: Along with Krel, his father-bot, DadBlank, will also appear in Wizards. Tom Kenny, who voices DadBlank, is best known as the voice of SpongeBob Squarepants, but has also had prominent roles on Adventure Time, Rocko’s Modern Life, and more.

Wizards: Tales of Arcadia’s New Cast

James Faulkner as King Arthur: As the cast of Tales of Arcadia continues to expand, a whole new group of characters are being introduced in Wizards – the most recognizable of which is the fabled King Arthur. With characters like Merlin and Morgana already a part of the story, the inclusion of Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table isn’t much of a stretch. Wizards’ version of the once and future king is played by James Faulkner, another Game of Thrones’ alum who portrayed Randyll Tarly on the series.

John Rhys-Davis as Sir Galahad: Joining Arthur is Sir Galahad, one of the king’s most trusted knights. Wizards’ version of Galahad is a mustachioed, portly man and a gallant knight who fights to protect Camelot. Voicing Galahad for Wizards is John Rhys-Davis, an absolute legend with many credits to his name, but is probably best known as Sallah from the Indiana Jones movies and Gimli from The Lords of the Rings Trilogy.

Rupert Penry-Jones as Sir Lancelot: The most famous of Arthur’s knights, Lancelot is a dashing knight in Wizards and becomes something of a mentor to Steve. Lancelot is played by Rupert Penry-Jones, an actor who has appeared in the British series, Spooks, and in another Del Toro show, The Strain.

Stephanie Beatriz as Callista: One of the news trolls introduced in Wizards is Callista, an outcast who befriends Jim when the two are imprisoned and later escape. She is voiced by Stephanie Beatriz of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the actress brings to Callista a similarly tough but kind attitude as her Rosa Diaz.

Angel Lin as Nari: With a new series comes a new threat, and in Wizards, that’s the Arcane Order. This ancient group is comprised of incredibly powerful magical creatures who in order to save magic want to bring about the destruction of humans. The most docile of the Arcane Order is Nari of the Eternal Forest, a character who looks a little like a wood nymph. Nari is played Angel Lin.

Piotr Michael as Skrael: Another member of the Arcande Order is Skrael of the North Wind, a character who wields powerful ice magic and wears a large, horned skull on their head. Piotr Michael is voicing Skrael, an actor with several voice-over credits, including roles on Family Guy and The Outer Worlds video game.

Kay Bess & Piotr Michael as Bellroc: The final member of the Arcane Order is Bellroc, the Keeper of the Flame. Easily the most violent of the group, Bellroc wields fire magic and also obscures their face with an animal skull. Bellroc’s voice is unique in that it’s actually created by combining the performances of Piotr Michael and Kay Bess.

Kathleen Turner & Stephanie Beatriz as Nimue/Lady of the Lake: With the many other Camelot-inspired characters in Wizards, the series would be remissed for not including some version of the Lady of the Lake, who gifted Arthur the sword, Excalibur. Wizards creates the voice for their Lady of the Lake by employing two actress – Beatriz, who voices the soft-spoken Nimue, and Katheleen Turner as the true and much deeper voice of the Lady’s full form. Turner is an actress with dozens of roles in movies, TV, and on stage, but in voice-over work, is best known for playing Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. She has previously taken part in Tales of Arcadia by voicing Gwendolyn in 3Below.

Brian Blessed as Charlemagne: Rounding out the newcomers to Tales of Arcadia is Charlemagne, a legendary dragon. To voice Charlemagne, the series has enlisted arguably one of the best (and loudest) voices in the business, Brian Blessed, an actor with countless credits on both stage and screen, ranging from Shakespeare to Doctor Who and everything in between, but for many, he’s best known as the voice of Boss Nass in Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
