A new ally is about to join Wonder Woman: Bat-Mite, the Fifth-Dimensional Batman-obsessed imp. Wonder Woman #778 has a new preview from DC Comics that reveals the latest ally to assist the titular heroine on her journey, and it’s a powerful character who tends to be either loved or loathed by longtime fans.
Bat-Mite is a sort of alternate version of Batman from the Fifth Dimension. This is the same dimension that Mister Mxyzptlk calls home. It follows alternate physics than the ones DC’s greatest heroes are used to. Wonder Woman is still a long way from home and her journey is definitely multi-dimensional. Batman is Bat-Mite’s idol, hence why this miniature version imitates the Dark Knight through his costume and actions. He is a trouble-maker with good intentions.
Wonder Woman #778 has the creative team of Michael W. Conrad, Becky Cloonan, Travis Moore, Tamra Bonvillain, and Pat Brosseau. Diana has been trying to make her way back home and is traveling with Siggy – her new beau from Valhalla. While in the Phantom Zone, Wonder Woman is seeking a way out when she comes across Xa-Du – the first Phantom Zone prisoner. Her altercation with him is ended prematurely by Aethyr (also known as the Oversoul) who sends Wonder Woman through a portal with the task of hunting down Janus. Check out Bat-Mite’s return in the preview here:
Janus has been causing trouble for Wonder Woman throughout her current journey – leaving a wake of destruction in her path. Now, she has taken Deadman, and Wonder Woman is trying to save him and stop her foe. Unfortunately, Janus has managed to stay far ahead of the heroine and her companions. Now, they have been led to the Fifth Dimension, where an explosion has occurred, covering one of the dimension’s heroes in rubble: Bat-Mite. Upon seeing Wonder Woman, the miniature Dark Knight becomes very excited – after all, she works closely with Batman himself and is one of his friends. It seems inevitable that Bat-Mite will be joining her on her quest to try and meet his hero again and prove himself worthy of not just the mantle, but of a future potential partnership.
Bat-Mite recently appeared in issues of Justice League during DC’s Year of the Villain, which led up to the universal changes occurring in Dark Knights: Death Metal. He is part of the Justice Mites of America team and can be a very useful ally, able to alter reality and teleport himself and others. While largely silly, he does have his uses. With his desire to impress Batman by assisting one of his friends, Bat-Mite might be one of the best allies Wonder Woman could have in this dimension. However, due to the location, she could also run into Mister Mxyzptlk – who may or may not be a worthwhile ally depending on his mood. He isn’t evil, but he tends to see heroes as playthings.
Diana’s journey is about to get rather interesting as – because of Bat-Mite’s powers and attitude – her fight could reach new levels of silliness, despite the severity of the situation. Fans can read about Wonder Woman and Batman’s biggest fan’s search for Janus in Wonder Woman #778, on sale now.
