In the world of cinema, the past decade has been ruled by superheroes. While Marvel’s interconnected movie universe (the Marvel Cinematic Universe) is still top dog in terms of audience interest and box office numbers, DC’s counterpart (the DC Extended Universe) is slowly catching up, with its last couple of movies being well received among critics and fans.

The future of these two cinematic universes appears to be in the hands of Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, with Wonder Woman being the most successful DCEU movie to date and Captain Marvel showing herself to be of huge importance to the MCU and pop culture as a whole. But if these two powerful heroines clashed, who would win? Here are 5 reasons why Wonder Woman would win this hypothetical duel, and 5 more why Captain Marvel will seize the victory.

10 WONDER WOMAN: Stamina

As Captain America has shown, sometimes winning a fight isn’t about besting an opponent and beating them into submission with a show of strength. Sometimes, winning a fight depends upon who can take the most damage and keep getting up.

Wonder Woman has a super human level of stamina that would make her be very difficult to defeat. She has shown that she can even outlast Doomsday in a fight, so she should be able to hold her own against Captain Marvel.

9 CAPTAIN MARVEL: Cosmic Powers

The source of Captain Marvel’s powers was the Kree light speed engine, which in turn derived its power and energy from the Tesseract (aka The Space Stone). Though Captain Marvel has used her powers to fire Photon Blasts, the true strength and nature of her cosmic abilities are potentially unlimited.

If Captain Marvel’s cosmic powers are indeed endless in terms of potential, then she essentially possesses the power of an Infinity Stone within herself. This is a very scary and powerful power source, to say the least, which is why she wins this round.

Despite already being physically strong, Wonder Woman also boasts several weapons made by the gods of Ancient Greece that are certain to make her an incredibly difficult foe for Captain Marvel to lock horns with.

Her shield and bracelets are more than capable of deflecting Captain Marvel’s energy bursts and her sword and Lasso of Truth are certain to trouble Captain Marvel.

7 CAPTAIN MARVEL: Flight

While Wonder Woman does possess the power of flight in several iterations of the character, it is far more intrinsic to Captain Marvel’s powers and abilities. While the power of flight itself doesn’t give Captain Marvel an automatic advantage, it would make her a troublesome opponent for the Amazon warrior when it’s combined with her other abilities.

Flight allows Captain Marvel to constantly get different angles on her attacks, keeping out of Wonder Woman’s reach while not reducing her own damage levels.

6 WONDER WOMAN: Healing & Durability

In a similar vein to entry number ten, Wonder Woman’s healing abilities and general durability will make her a very difficult nut to crack for Captain Marvel. Any damage Captain Marvel actually lands on Wonder Woman will begin healing immediately, allowing the Amazon to tank more damage than a normal person could.

In addition to her healing factor, Wonder Woman also has superhuman durability that allows her to endure great amounts of damage and stress. Regardless of how much damage Captain Marvel inflicts on Wonder Woman, there’s a good chance that the latter will be able to get back up right after it.

5 CAPTAIN MARVEL: Agility

Captain Marvel is one of the strongest Avengers due to her energy blasts and cosmic abilities, but perhaps one of her underrated abilities will come in handy – especially against a foe as fast and strong as Wonder Woman.

Captain Marvel’s enhanced agility will allow her to dodge Wonder Woman’s attacks with ease, meaning she is less likely to take constant damage in the fight.

4 WONDER WOMAN: Super Strength

While both Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel possess super strength, Wonder Woman’s strength is the superior of the two. The Amazonian warrior is generally considered to be one of the strongest fighters in the entire DC Universe, only being second to Superman by a small margin.

It’s important to remember that Wonder Woman is a demigod and this is the source of her incredible strength and superhuman durability.

3 CAPTAIN MARVEL: Super Speed

Regardless of how strong Wonder Woman is, if she can barely even see her enemy coming then she won’t be able to actually attack. Fortunately for Captain Marvel, she has the power of super speed that would make this attack possible.

While Captain Marvel was trained in the airforce, there is no denying that Wonder Woman is the more skilled warrior of the two heroes. Coached by Amazonian warriors on the island of Themyscira, Wonder Woman has been trained to fight since she was a girl.

In addition to physical training, Wonder Woman was also taught battle tactics and how to use her mind to bring down her enemies. This wealth of knowledge, coupled with thousands of years of training, will make her very difficult to overcome – even for airforce and galactic veteran Captain Marvel.

1 CAPTAIN MARVEL: Energy Blasts

Naturally, the biggest arrow in Captain Marvel’s quiver is her energy blasts. These incredibly powerful energy blasts allow Captain Marvel to do untold damage from an extreme distance, which her powers of flight and super speed allow for.

Arguably, Captain Marvel would be able to defeat Wonder Woman from a vast distance, without any physical fight actually taking place.
