The newest development update for first-person military shooter World War 3 has gone live on line, offering a closer look at the robust customization options for uniforms. Developer The Farm 51 released the title in Steam Early Access in Fall 2018. Production on the project seemed to go smoothly for a time, with World War 3 regularly receiving content updates and free weekends for potential newcomers.

However, the pace of things changed in June 2020 once The Farm 51 partnered with My.Games – the publisher behind Crytek’s MMO shooter, Warface. World War 3’s development crew ceased Steam sales, followed by months of radio silence. Many were left to believe The Farm 51 may have quietly canceled the multiplayer shooter, especially given the studio’s outward focus on Chernobylite, the survival horror RPG that’s often likened to GSC Game World’s STALKER. No one should count World War 3 out just yet, though, evidenced by the release of a brand-new video.

The Farm 51 has shared a new video highlighting World War 3, specifically emphasizing the significance of uniform customization options. In a press release, the developer said its artists use an Artec 3D scanner to “reproduce realistic items” in-game, including boots, bags, and pieces of weaponry. Still, the artists go out of their way to make some uniforms from scratch, faithfully recreating attire based on the U.S. Navy SEALs, Russian Spetsnaz, and Polish GROM. Players will have the option to stylishly alter their appearance in accordance with camouflage that goes hand-in-hand with certain environments, such as snowy and urban regions. And thanks to the overhauled UI, mixing and matching loadouts should feel far more intuitive than it did during World War 3’s initial Early Access phase.

What the latest update lacks, however, is new information about future launch plans. As such, it remains unknown as to when World War 3 will return to Steam and receive a full-on release. But, at the very least, fans can rest assured the ambitious military shooter is here to stay.

Often compared to Battlefield, World War 3 drops players into a modern global conflict where massive infantry battles swarm with foot soldiers, drones, and hulking vehicles. Realistic tactical gameplay heightens the experience further still, leaning heavily into what The Farm 51 termed “playable realism.”
