Xiaomis Redmi Is Launching A Trio Of New FitnessTracking Smartwatches

Xiaomi is known for its Mi Band line of fitness trackers which are bestsellers in several markets. It now wants to pass some of its success to its subsidiary, Redmi, which has launched three new wearables – the Redmi Watch 2, Redmi Watch 2 Lite, and the Redmi Band Pro. The first two are smartwatches while the Redmi Band Pro is a fitness tracker.

There is no shortage of smartwatches and fitness trackers, and there is hardly any smartphone manufacturer that isn’t trying to grab a share of the market. Xiaomi, which launched its first fitness tracker, the Mi Band, in 2014, shipped more wearables than Apple in the second quarter of 2021.

The Redmi Watch 2 is a square-faced smartwatch with a 1.6-inch AMOLED touch display and a single button. Alongside standard features such as a heart rate sensor and blood oxygen level sensor, Wareable reports the smartwatch has support for 117 sports modes, built-in GPS, sleep tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, and 5ATM water resistance. Its battery can last up to 12 days depending on the usage. The Redmi Watch 2 Lite drops the AMOLED screen for a smaller 1.55-inch LCD panel but with the same 320 x 360 resolution. It can also measure heart rate and SpO₂ level, has a 5ATM water resistance rating, built-in GPS, over 100 workout modes including HIIT and yoga, and can be synced with Strava and Apple Health. Its battery life is slightly lesser at 10 days. The Redmi Smart Band Pro, which is the fitness tracker, has a smaller 1.47-inch AMOLED 450 nits screen and can track up to 110 different workouts. While it doesn’t have a built-in GPS module, it has a heart rate sensor and can measure SpO₂ levels. It can also track menstrual cycles and measure stress levels and has a battery life of 14 days.

Price Is The Best Feature

Xiaomi products are known to be super affordable and this gives them an edge over the competition. The Redmi Watch 2 has a ¥399 price tag in China which converts to about $62 or €54. Not only does it undercut the Fitbit Charge 5, but there is also no subscription required. Although it most likely will not be officially launched in North America, it should launch in Europe and India as the first generation Redmi Watch is sold in these regions. Xiaomi is yet to unveil the pricing and availability details for the Redmi Watch 2 Lite and Redmi Smart Band Pro but it has been confirmed that the two products will be sold outside China.

The launch of these new smartwatches and fitness tracker should help Xiaomi strengthen its position as a leader in the wearable market. It has sold millions of wearables with its method of offering killer features at affordable prices, so these new products should have no problem flying off the shelves.
