Mojang, the Microsoft-owned developer of Minecraft, is allowing players to choose which new mob will be added to the survival sandbox game during this year’s Minecraft Live event on October 3. This is similar to last year’s Minecraft Live event, where players were able to choose which biome they wanted to see receive in a massive update.

Minecraft is the world’s most-played survival game, and, thanks to its virtually limitless possibilities and active support, it has stayed one of the most viewed games online for several years. The recent Minecraft Championship events have drawn huge crowds of concurrent viewers across different platforms, and various Minecraft content creators have skyrocketed to popularity by inventing their own game mode, such as the viral Minecraft Manhunt. There is also a huge audience who enjoys watching vanilla survival Minecraft, so there’s really something for every type of streamer, creator, and viewer out there – given that they like the game, of course.

Today, the Minecraft YouTube channel posted a video announcing this year’s candidates. There are three mobs that players can choose between, the Glow Squid, Iceologer, and Moobloom, and Mojang has already taken the liberty of providing a brief description of each potential addition to help player make their decision. In addition to the announcement video, Mojang will be releasing separate videos this week for each of the potential mobs. Each mob will be added to the ever-growing game eventually (as will presumably everything in existence), but fans can decide on October 3 which mob will be added first.

The mobs aren’t anything too groundbreaking, as they are all reskins of existing mobs that are given different abilities. The Moobloom is a type of Mooshroom or cow that is yellow in color. It was first introduced in Minecraft Earth, and the description stated that bees and Mooblooms will be able to interact with one another in some unique way. The Glow Squid was also introduced in Minecraft Earth and identical to the normal Minecraft squid except it glows, and it description doesn’t tell players much else. Lastly, the Iceologer is a hostile Illager mob that resides in the upcoming snowy mountain biomes. They’ll hurl clouds of ice at a player who comes within their domain, so, if the Iceloger wins, players should prepare for a thrilling snowball fight after the next update.

On top of these new mobs, it will be interesting to see what other new additions will make their way into Minecraft. Last year, players voted for updated mountain biomes, and it has been some time since Mojang has offered any insight on that update. It’ll also be neat to see what the new mobs have in store for players over the course of this week, and the upcoming videos will help decide which mob is worthy of making it into Minecraft first.
