Young Justice The 10 Most Powerful Characters In The Animated Series

Young Justice is currently airing its highly anticipated fourth season, subtitled Phantoms. The show has been airing intermittently since 2010, allowing fans to know and care for the cast of heroic characters that protect Earth 16 from all kinds of dangers.

The show’s heroes are all pretty impressive and inspiring, but some are more powerful than others. Whether because of their metahuman abilities or their extensive training and fighting experience, these characters rank among the mightiest beings in the DC universe, adding all the action necessary to make Young Justice one of the best animated shows on television.

Black Lightning

Introduced at the very beginning of season 3, Jefferson Pierce is a member of the Justice League. After accidentally killing a mutated teenage metahuman, he loses faith in the League and quits, joining Nightwing’s merry band of outsiders.

A metahuman with the power to produce, as his name implies, black bolts of lightning, Jefferson is a force to reckon with in battle. He is powerful enough to knock out several enemies at once and has complete control over his abilities. He is also a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, further increasing his standing within the League.

Blue Beetle

Slowly but surely, Jaime Reyes’ reputation within the DC Universe has increased. He is an otherwise ordinary teenager who gained considerable powers when he accidentally bonded with an alien scarab. In the show’s second season, Invasion, Reyes played a prominent role thanks to the scarab’s relationship with the story’s big bad, the alien race known as the Reach.

Comic book fans know Blue Beetle has multiple abilities thanks to the scarab on his back. These include a full suit of armor that protects him against almost every threat and allows him to fly. The suit can also produce several weapons, such as blades, blasters, and even cannons. Because of its alien nature, the scarab can read other species’ vital signs and interpret them, offering valuable insights when battling.

Superboy

As one of the founding members of the Team, Superboy is also a fan-favorite character. He is a clone of Superman, who he looks up to as a brother, and Lex Luthor. Superboy also has one of the best character arcs in the show, going from a rageaholic and rebellious crime fighter to a mature and caring hero.

Because of his status as a half-human, half-Kryptonian clone, Superboy doesn’t have all of Superman’s powers. For example, he has super strength, durability, super hearing, infrared vision, and super speed. However, he lacks the more advanced abilities of flight and heat vision and is presumably incapable of ever developing them naturally. Still, Superboy is a massive threat in battle, capable of taking on an entire army by himself.

Aquaman

As Aqualad, Kaldur is the leader of the Team, a stoic and level-headed mentor and guide to his fellow teammates. His path leads him to become Aquaman, assuming leadership of the Justice League. Kaldur is also one of DC’s fan-favorite LGBTQ+ superheroes, currently in a relationship with the Atlantean Wyynde.

Kaldur always showed his prowess in battle and his natural leadership. He is not only a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant, but he also has a wide range of water-based abilities, including hydrokinesis and electricity generation. Kaldur can also solidify the water he’s controlling, turning into different weapons like blades and hammers. He is also skilled in Atlantean sorcery, making him even more impressive.

Halo

Halo might be the single most divisive character in the show. Many fans disliked how prominent she was in season 3, thinking her role came at the expense of other fan favorites like Kaldur and Zatanna. However, others welcomed her with open arms, celebrating the inclusion of a Middle Eastern character in the show.

Since her debut, it became clear that Halo was a box full of surprises, literally. She is the spirit of a Mother Box who took over the body of a young Quraci girl. As such, Halo has a ton of powers that she slowly discovered during her time on the Team. She can heal any wound, essentially becoming immortal, fly, shoot energy beams, multiply herself, and create boom tubes and force fields.

Miss Martian

Miss Martian is one of the best characters in Young Justice. She is the niece of the Martian Manhunter, a mother figure to the Team who is still a firm and capable leader. Her romance with Conner is also a pillar of the show, helping her mature and become a bona fide hero.

In many ways, Miss Martian is the most powerful member of the Team. She has a plethora of abilities, including flight, mind control, telekinesis, invisibility, shapeshifting, and the elusive density shifting. During many missions, she is the Team’s secret weapon, cementing her place as the most powerful main character.

Klarion

Both entertaining and annoying, Klarion, the Witch Boy, is one of Young Justice’s most delightful characters. His personality is that of a spoiled and obnoxious child, and he even speaks with a childish lisp. However, he is a Lord of Chaos and a prominent member of the Light, making him a threat of considerable alarm.

According to Doctor Fate, Klarion is chaos personified and cannot be contained. However, he needs an anchor to manifest in the mortal world, which takes the form of an orange cat named Teeki. Still, Klarion is massively powerful, capable of flying, shooting energy blasts, teleporting, creating magical constructs, shape and density shift, and transmutation. He has also shown a degree of technomancy.

Zatanna

Young Justice The 10 Most Powerful Characters In The Animated Series

Fany fans were sorry when seasons 2 and 3 featured Zatanna in a small supporting role after being one of the best parts of season 1. However, season 4 will change that, giving her an entire four-episode arc, finally bringing one of Young Justice’s most likable and personable characters into the spotlight.

Zatanna is also mighty powerful. As one of the most gifted magic-users on Earth 16, Zatanna can do pretty much anything she wants, from changing her clothes to sending entire armies blasting off. Her spells affect everything, so long as she speaks the words backward. Her upcoming arc on Phantoms will give more insight into the full extent of her power, pitting her against her long-time foe, Klarion.

Vandal Savage

Young Justice The 10 Most Powerful Characters In The Animated Series

For all terms and purposes, Vandal Savage is Young Justice’s primary antagonist. He is the puppet master working from behind the scenes, acting as the Light’s leader and representing its interests to the likes of Darkseid. Like his comic book counterpart, Vandal Savage is an immortal metahuman with enhanced strength, healing, and stamina. He is also extremely clever and a skilled tactician.

Vandal might be a regular, shockingly resistant human being, but season 2 dramatically increased his standing within the Young Justice universe by giving him control of the Warworld, a planet-sized artificial satellite with enough weapons to destroy the Earth. It would take the combined efforts of the Justice League and the Team to even match the Warworld’s might.

Doctor Fate

Comic book fans know that Doctor Fate is incredibly powerful. He has a wide range of mystical abilities that place him near the top of the Young Justice power rankings, including flight, energy blasts, magical constructs, telepathy, and teleportation. He also has the power to sense other people’s souls.

However, the full extent of Fate’s powers remains unexplored. Fans do know that his abilities depend on the host he is occupying at the moment, which is why Klarion could overtake him when he was possessing Wally. That’s no longer a problem because his current host, Zatara, is one of the best magic users on Earth 16, meaning Fate is possibly at the peak of his powers.
