Another video has emerged online showing the differences between the Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo Switch versions of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, including some of the missing features in the emulated game. A variety of Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles have been added to Nintendo Switch Online as part of the Expansion Pack tier. The subscription more than doubles the cost of the standard tier and has been roundly criticized for failing to include many common features such as party chat and proper friend lists.

The new video is not the only case of players pointing out the problems with the emulated version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch, as well as other games such as Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. One of the most notable issues has been input lag in Nintendo 64 emulated titles. Many videos have demonstrated that these titles all have high input lag, making it difficult for players to have precise control.

YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits has helped to show the differences between the Nintendo 64 and Switch versions of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. While the emulated game has seen a big jump in resolution, the frame rate has remained identical and even stutters more occasionally. However, the big issue comes with the fog and reflections, which have been significantly downgraded. This may well be the result of Nintendo using the Japanese version of the game to emulate. Fog doesn’t show up correctly; it is missing entirely from the background but appears close to the player, which also makes water reflections look uglier in the Switch version. The higher resolution has also exposed the deficiencies with the draw distance and level of detail in the game, as they are more easily seen.

While there are many games already included in the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, more are on the way. Nintendo has not revealed the complete list of which N64 games will appear yet but some users have been able to get clues from datamines. One recent leak suggested several additional games that may be on the way in the near future. The datamine uncovered information about the Nintendo 64 titles Smash Bros. and Wave Race, among others

The poor emulation of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is very disappointing, especially considering that there are many other devices and software available that can emulate the game far more efficiently and effectively. Nintendo has seemingly put little effort into getting these Nintendo 64 titles to work on the Switch and this will likely not convince many players to upgrade their memberships to gain access to the extra classic releases.
