10 Actors Who Have Been Nominated For Both An Oscar & A Razzie

The Golden Raspberry Awards represent the cynical side of critics and general audiences, and it’s almost like the Bizarro version of The Academy Awards. For the most part, the Razzies are massively spiteful and make fun of artists and their hard work, but it’s always fun to see the nominations every year.

At the Razzies, there are awards that go to the Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Actress, and Worst Supporting Actress every year. And sometimes people other than Adam Sandler and Melissa McCarthy are nominated. Though it’s rare, Razzie nominated actors have also been nominated for (and in some cases, won) Academy Awards in the past, and these are the best examples.

10 Mark Wahlberg

10 Actors Who Have Been Nominated For Both An Oscar & A Razzie

There have been a couple of times when Wahlberg has been nominated for Worst Actor for two movies in one year; in 2008 for The Happening and Max Payne, and in 2017 for Daddy’s Home 2 and Transformers: The Last Knight. Even though there could have been a great Max Payne sequel, it’s hard to honestly defend any of those movies.

However, despite coming from a musical background and having no classical training as an actor, Wahlberg has proved himself to be a great actor. He was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars for his roles in The Departed and The Fighter.

9 Leonardo DiCaprio

10 Actors Who Have Been Nominated For Both An Oscar & A Razzie

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the greatest actors of this generation, and as he takes off years between roles, he’s clearly very selective about the characters he decides to play. This has led to him becoming increasingly committed to each consecutive role, and when he finally won Best Actor for The Revenant after being nominated five times, he received a standing ovation.

However, long before becoming completely attached to each character, DiCaprio starred in the 2000 thriller The Beach, for which he was nominated for Worst Actor. But while the movie isn’t great, DiCaprio’s performance is hardly the worst thing about it. His nomination for Worst Actor could be a classic case of the Razzie voters wanting to go against the popular opinion, as the whole world was in a state of Leo-mania at that point in time.

8 Anne Hathaway

10 Actors Who Have Been Nominated For Both An Oscar & A Razzie

One of the reasons why Anne Hathaway is so great is because she seemingly doesn’t have any pretense over the roles she decides to take. Though she’s a prestigious actor, she’ll happily star alongside Steve Carrell in a silly spy movie or play a stuck-up model in a heist caper.

But that also comes with consequences, as she has been nominated for Worst Actress for two years running. The actor was nominated for her role as the Grand High Witch in The Witches, one of the worst HBO Max exclusive movies. But nothing can take away her statue for her tear-jerking performance as Fantine in Les Miserables.

7 Will Smith

Though many actors are repeatedly nominated for Razzies, even the greats, Will Smith has luckily only ever been nominated once, which was for his role in After Earth. But, unfortunately, that one nomination led to a win. The movie was a passion project for Smith and his son, but the movie felt flat, and despite starring a real-life father and son, there was no chemistry.

Though he has been nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness, Smith is yet to win a statue. However, 2022 could be his year, as he is being praised to no end for his performance of Richard Williams in King Richard.

6 John Travolta

It’s like going into a movie blind when John Travolta is starring in it, as his performance could go either way. Unfortunately, when it came to playing real-life gangster John Gotti, it wasn’t exactly a role that’s up there with Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone or Robert De Niro as Al Capone.

Gotti is so bad it’s good due to Travolta’s performance, and he was nominated for Worst Actor. But he has also been nominated for Best Actor a couple of times, most notably for his role of Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, a crime movie way ahead of its time, unlike Gotti.

5 Johnny Depp

In one of the most interesting nominations, Johnny Depp was nominated for Worst Actor for the fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales. It’s the same role for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards 15 years beforehand for the first film.

It’s a little sad that Jack Sparrow was once one of the most compelling characters of the 2000s, but slowly, with each consecutive movie, that character became less and less exciting to watch. However, as there is a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot in development, there could be a refreshing new take on the character, especially as Margot Robbie is rumored to take up the mantle.

4 Halle Berry

Halle Berry might not star in as many movies as she used to, but that might be because she’s more selective with her roles after Catwoman, and rightly so. Though Selina Kyle is one of the best antiheroes ever, Catwoman was critically scathed and hated by fans of the character.

A mix of hilariously bad special effects and weird costume choices didn’t exactly enhance Berry’s portrayal of the character either, which led to her Worst Actor win. But just three years beforehand, she had won the Best Actress award for her amazingly dramatic role in Monster’s Ball.

3 Jamie Foxx

Robin Hood barely left much of an impression on audiences in 2018 based on its terrible box office performance. And in the 2018 movie, Jamie Foxx plays Little John, and voters of the Razzies believe the actor turned in a laughable performance.

Though it’s one of a very few losses for Foxx. The musician and comedian is a jack of all trades, as he also won the Academy Award for Best Actor for depicting Ray Charles in Ray. And what’s more impressive, he was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Collateral the very same year.

2 Sandra Bullock

Many actors have been nominated for awards in the same year, but none have taken home both awards, until 2011 that is. Sandra Bullock’s history with the Golden Raspberry Awards is unprecedented, as she actually showed up to the award ceremony to accept her win for Worst Actress for All About Steve.

The actor took it on the chin and even gave a hilarious speech where she handed out a copy of the comedy to everybody in attendance. And in another unprecedented moment in Hollywood, Bullock won Best Actress for The Blind Side in the very same year.

1 Nicolas Cage

Though the actor has had a comeback with recent movies like Pig, there was a long stretch of time where Nicolas Cage would star in one terrible movie after another. And almost as much as Adam Sandler, Cage is a serial nominee amongst the voters of the Razzies. In some cases, he’s nominated for Worst Actor in multiple movies a year.

In 2011, he was nominated for Worst Actor for Ghost Rider, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and Next. But despite Cage’s notoriety for over-the-top acting, he gave a very subdued and studied performance as an alcoholic in Leaving Las Vegas, for which he won Best Actor.
