Though he was and still remains an integral part of the entire MCU, Steve Rogers’ journey in the Captain America movies made for perhaps the best trilogy in the cinematic universe to date. The movies also delivered some of the most pulse-pounding and memorable action sequences seen in the MCU.

From the wartime setting of the first movie to Steve’s introduction to the 21st century, these movies featured so many thrilling chases, fights, and shootouts that stand out among the MCU’s larger-scale moments. Looking back at these movies, the action scenes excited audiences and further explored Captain America as a hero.

10 Chasing The Hydra Agent

Though it is a relatively small-scale action sequence, this scene from Captain America: The First Avenger is notable as it is the first time seeing Steve in action as a super-soldier. After going through the procedure, a Hydra agent attempts to steal the formula and Steve gives chase.

It is a thrill seeing just what he is capable of now and there is a funny moment of his new speed being somewhat difficult to control. It also proves that Steve really did have the heart of a hero all along and does not hesitate to save the day.

9 Enter The Black Panther

While Captain America: Civil War was packed with familiar heroes, it also introduced exciting new characters like Black Panther. While T’Challa was introduced earlier in the movie, he shows up in full Black Panther mode to chase down Bucky.

This moment finds Captain America rebelling the Accords and attempting to save Bucky which makes for a thrilling foot chase with three superpowered characters. It is also exciting to see Black Panther confirm he is a hero who can stand toe-to-toe with Cap.

8 The Mission In Lagos

While the Avengers are always seen on world-saving missions, it is fun to see them take on the smaller jobs at times. Captain America: Civil War opens with a mission in Lagos as Cap and the others attempt to stop Rumlow from stealing a biological weapon.

It is an intense sequence that gives all the heroes a chance to shine and work as a team. This leads to great moments like Wanda using her power to fly Cap up into a building. The sequence also has a shocking end which sets off the stakes of the movie.

7 Steve And Bucky Fight On The Helicarrier

Given how touching the relationship between Steve and Bucky was in the past, it is quite heartbreaking to see them forced to be enemies in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In the climactic battle, Steve and Bucky face off in a brutal fight.

The emotional fight really comes to define Steve as a hero. He reluctantly fights Bucky in order to accomplish his mission, but when that is done, he puts his shield down and refuses to fight anymore. He is not thinking about his own survival but rather trying to help Bucky remember who he really is.

6 Freeway Ambush

As Steve and the other heroes are on the run from Hydra in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the villains close in on them in an epic ambush. The action goes from an attack on the freeway to a vicious battle underneath the overpass.

As Bucky leads the Hydra agents, his Winter Soldier is cemented as a terrifying and relentless villain while also revealing himself to Steve for the first time. Natasha and Sam are also given some great moments that show why they make a great team with Steve.

Nick Fury has usually been a character who operates in the shadows but Captain America: The Winter Soldier put him a little more front and center in the story. It also showed that he could be quite a capable badass when needed.

As he digs deeper into SHIELD’s secrets, he is attacked in his car. Even when taken by surprise, the scene shows how quickly Fury can take control of a situation. It makes for a terrific car chase sequence that is one of the character’s best moments.

4 Rescue Mission On The Freighter

Though Captain America: The First Avenger was a fun adventure, Captain America: The Winter Soldier took the action to another level. This is immediately introduced in the movie’s first action sequence as Cap leads a rescue mission aboard a stolen SHIELD freighter.

Seeing Cap adjust to the 21st century with his new hand-to-hand fighting style is a real thrill and his iconic shield is made into a badass weapon. He also has a fun faceoff scene with Batroc that shows, even though he is a noble hero, Cap likes a good fight from time to time.

3 Iron Man Vs Captain America And Bucky

Tony might not be Steve Rogers’ best friend in the world, but the two had formed a strong bond over the course of several movies. So to see them at odds in Captain America: Civil War was tough for fans to watch.

At the climax of the movie, just as it seems like they have decided to fight side-by-side again, the truth about Tony’s parents is revealed and the former friends get into an epic and emotional battle. Unlike other MCU climaxes, this one is purely based on emotional stakes. Tony is fighting for revenge and Steve is fighting for his friend.

2 The Elevator Brawl

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is such a fun movie because it makes Captain America an underdog surrounded by enemies. While the entire movie has that feel, it is shown quite literally in the famous elevator fight scene.

The moment Steve realizes his former friends are turning on him is intense and it is followed by the badass moment he reminds them they are stuck in an elevator with Captain America himself. The messy close-quarters fight is unlike anything in the MCU and it is incredible to watch.

1 Heroes Battle At The Airport

There have been a lot of hero-vs-hero battles in the MCU and they are often a lot of fun. But the trope can be retired at this point as nothing is likely to top Team Captain America facing off with Team Iron Man in the airport fight.

These former allies come together in a hugely entertaining battle. While no one is really looking to do a lot of damage, it is still a gripping fight that allows everyone their moment to shine, including Ant-Man’s shocking new trick. It is also notable as the first appearance of Spider-Man in the MCU.
