Fans are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU, and a lot of speculation surrounds what form they take. 10 X-Men Forever
X-Men Forever features an All-Star lineup including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Beast, Sabretooth, and Professor X, making them one of the strongest rosters in the team’s history. The reformed Sabretooth takes the place of Wolverine, who has died in this alternate universe of Earth-161, imagined by legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont.
Wolverine’s spirit and powers live on in Kitty Pryde, who acquired them through a phasing mishap in a battle with Fabian Cortez. A Wolverine/Shadowcat makes this team incredible. With Logan’s claws and healing factor, she is one of the most powerful versions of Kitty Pryde.
9 X-Men The End
The X-Men suffer through a lot of tragedy and setbacks, so it’s rare when they succeed. X-Men The End imagines a positive outcome for the X-Men and gives fans one of the best versions of the team in the process.
The story goes forward in the future to find Cyclops and Emma Frost married with children, Rogue able to touch people, and Kitty Pryde as the eventual President of the United States. The team is much more of a family than it ever was before and much happier than in other alternate realities, which often are bleak.
8 Vampire X-Men
One of those bleak alternate realities involved Wolverine being the Lord of Vampires. In What If..? #24, Dracula eventually turns all of the X-Men including Jean Grey as Phoenix into vampires after initially succeeding in turning Storm. Wolverine ultimately kills Dracula and usurps him as the new Lord of all vampires.
Along with the vampire X-Men, he leads a reign of terror against New York City. The vampire mutants are virtually unstoppable in one of the darkest and strangest alternate realities in What If..? comics.
7 Asgardian Wars
Another version of the X-Men seen in What If..? is one of the stranger and most powerful. In What If…? #12, the story explores what would have happened if the X-Men had stayed in Asgard after their adventure during the Asgardian Wars in X-Men Annual #9. The result is an Asgardian X-Men squad for the ages.
Nightcrawler and Sunspot both become Asgardian warriors, while Dani Moonstar becomes a member of the Valkyrie. Storm becomes the Goddess of Thunder through the use of a version of Mjolnir, and she transforms into one of the most powerful versions of Thor in the comics.
6 Ultimate X-Men
The Ultimate X-Men are one of the best versions of the X-Men for giving fans a blank slate. The classic characters are mostly all there but without the burden of Eath-616 continuity that at times made things very complicated for new readers. New takes on younger versions of Storm, Wolverine, and Jean Grey were a breath of fresh air.
The team also combined different eras of the team sooner, getting together the classic first five X-Men with their Giant-Sized replacements right away. This made for exciting new dynamics and interpersonal relationships as they faced familiar if somewhat different foes.
5 X-Men 2099
The X-Men of 2099 is among the most unique versions of the team, with little connection to classic characters or plot threads. Their singular nature makes them one of the best iterations of the squad from its near sixty years in comics.
The team comes together at the end of the 21st century, inspired by the distant dream of Charles Xavier. The team is made of new characters like Cerebra, Desert Ghost, and Bloodhawk arrayed with unique powers to take on the grim corporate-ruled future of this timeline.

The ‘Witchbreed,’ as mutants are known in the 1602 timeline in the comics, goes the other direction in terms of history. This version succeeds because it takes the mutant hysteria of the modern age and amplifies it to even greater degrees by locating the team within the superstitious Elizabethan period and during the infamous Spanish Inquisition.
Despite the fear and uncertainty facing them, the original five X-Men band forces in a fascinating take on the team that took them back to their roots in the comics.
3 Age Of Apocalypse
The Age Of Apocalypse is one of the darkest future timelines in Marvel Comics, and it produced one of the best versions of the X-Men. Led by Magneto along with his wife Rogue, this team faces the threat of total annihilation with a much different roster that includes Sabretooth as a mentor to the teleporting mutant Blink.
This team does what it takes to stop Apocalypse and prevent their dystopian future from ever coming to pass. That leads to dramatic decisions and a lot of shocking deaths, showing how far this version of the team will go to make the world right.
2 Days Of Futures Past
The original dystopian future in X-Men comics belongs to Days Of Futures Past. The team that exists in this nightmare reality devastated by Sentinels includes an older and grizzled Wolverine, an older Kate Pryde, as well as a young Rachel Summers and Franklin Richards.
