Army of Darkness was never intended to be scary, but rather, a hilarious mixture of the horror and comedy movie genres. It was a bizarre concoction that confused a lot of moviegoers when it was released in 1992, thanks in part to its blend of grotesque horror, fantastical creatures, slapstick humor, and ridiculously funny one-liners.

Ash wasn’t too happy to arrive in the past, and immediately get branded a traitor to the Crown. His attempted execution didn’t make things any better, and he narrowly survived the encounter with all of his intestines intact. After escaping the execution pit, Ash was none-too-pleased with those who put him in there.
When Arthur became angry after Ash released Henry the Red and his men, he drew his sword in challenge. Ash responded by blasting the sword in half with a shotgun blast, then proceeded to educate the villagers about his “boomstick,” and where to find it in the sporting goods department of S-Mart, his place of employment.
9 “Groovy!”
Ash lost his hand in Evil Dead II after the evil force infected it, and tried to overtake his entire body in one of the Evil Dead franchise’s best moments. He ended up lopping it off at the wrist to prevent the rot from spreading, which allowed him to latch his chainsaw to it as a replacement. Moving forward, that wouldn’t be enough.
Knowing that the Deadite threat was real, Ash decided to get creative by fashioning a steel hand for himself which was far more powerful than a human one. He tested it by grabbing a metal goblet and crushing it with ease, which triggered this unexpectedly hilarious quote.
8 “Yo, She-Bitch! Let’s Go!”
It’s safe to say that after several run-ins with the darkness that powered the Deadites, Ash had become accustomed to battling them. In fact, Ash endured multiple tragedies in the Evil Dead series at the hands of this evil force, and his resentment was palpable. It’s no surprise that he looked forward to payback, whenever possible.
Shortly arriving in the past, Ash was attacked by a Deadite zombie who warned them of the evil that was about to befall them. As it attacked several of Arthur’s men, Ash interrupted her with a shotgun blast before delivering this notoriously memorable line.
7 “You Ain’t Leadin’ But Two Things Right Now – Jack And S***! And Jack Left Town.”
Ash got roped in with Henry the Red and his men, who were captured by Arthur and set for execution. Henry was puzzled by Ash’s appearance, as he didn’t recognize him as one of his own. He asked who Ash was, before revealing his own identity.
It led to one of the funniest and most cringeworthy quotes of the entire film. Ash greeted Henry with a spectacularly unexpected “Well Hello, Mister Fancy-Pants,” before uttering this quote to point out that he wasn’t exactly in a position to lead anyone at that moment.

Feeling remorseful for her own presumptive behavior towards Ash, Sheila tried to make amends by making kind overtures to him, which were rebuffed in turn. When Ash was busy tinkering with a new creation, she picked up one of the pieces, only to get rebuked by Ash with this funny line, proving that he himself wasn’t as smart as he presumed.

After failing to bring back the Necronomicon from its cradle while reciting the proper incantation, Arthur and his people became immediate targets for the Deadites. Ash wasn’t concerned about any of that, as he simply wanted to get back to his own time. He argued about upholding his end of the deal, which Arthur reluctantly acknowledged.
Thinking Ash was going to abandon them, they began to panic amongst themselves about the Deadites. Ash decided to step up to the plate and act as their de facto leader, saying they should stay and fight. Arthur and Ash then shared this hilarious exchange, which summed up the latter to a T.

Ash had many popular one-liners when battling the Deadites, but this particular quote is one of his most famous. He utters it in the original Army of Darkness theatrical release after going back to his own time, where a Deadite zombie reveals itself in the S-Mart department store.
This quote, and a few others from the film, were so iconic that it became part of the cultural lexicon almost overnight. It even influenced the video game character Duke Nukem, who copied these same one-liners wholesale for the release of the iconic video game Duke Nukem 3D back in 1996.

All Ash had to do was memorize three simple lines of an incantation in order to safely remove the Necronomicon from its cradle. The Wise Man even forced him to repeat the words “Klaatu, Verata, Nikto” several times, which he found annoying. Dismissing it as a waste of time, Ash ventured forth to retrieve the book.
However, when the time came to seize it, he ended up forgetting the third word of the incantation. Hilarity ensued as a panicked Ash tried desperately to remember it, only to purposely fudge the word at the end, hoping the powers that be wouldn’t notice. Army of Darkness is loaded with behind-the-scenes facts, but one rarely mentioned is the incantation. There is some debate as to whether the second word is “Barada” or Verata,” but the characters on the screen clearly say it with a V, instead of a B, which is backed up by the film’s original script.
2 “I Got A Bone To Pick With You!”
Bad Ash started off largely as a mischievous troublemaker, but his resurrected form was something far more aggressive and evil. Still, he possessed many of Good Ash’s traits, including his penchant for slapstick humor and cheesy one-liners.
After battling Ash and having his face burnt off by a torch, the skeletal Bad Ash confronted him once again for possession of the Necronomicon. As Good Ash looked on with horror, Bad Ash dropped this goofy line, before the fight descended into even more looney and hilarious territory. this quote and fight are just two of the many reasons why Army of Darkness is considered one of the most entertaining comedy/horror movies ever made.

Ash mutters this quote a few times throughout the film as a way to play up his character’s ultra-macho cheesiness. It was intended to be a throwback to the classic fantasy films of old, while still injecting modern-day humor into the script. It ended up working, however, and the quote became synonymous with Ash’s heroic heartbreaker side. It was also used by Bad Ash for a much more insidious purpose, which represented the evil mirror image of the character.
