10 Best Mandy Moore Performances, According To Rotten Tomatoes

Mandy Moore has been in the spotlight for most of her life. She burst onto the scene in the late 90’s as a budding pop star, competing with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson on the Billboards with her hit song “Candy,” but it was acting that wold really solidify Mandy in the entertainment industry and make her name a very recognizable one.

Over the last twenty or so years, Mandy has starred in some really iconic films including A Walk To Remember and The Princess Diaries. In 2016, This is Us premiered and was an instant fan favorite, earning Mandy both a Golden Globe nomination and an Emmy nomination for her work on the show as matriarch, Rebecca Pearson. But before we get into that, here’s a look back at Mandy’s Moore’s best performances, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

10 Because I Said So (2007) – 4%

This is another of Mandy’s films that could be considered severely underrated. This romantic comedy, led by a stellar all-female cast, has some wonderful moments, including a musical number with Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham, and Piper Perabo.

It’s funny with some tear-jerking moments and has all of the elements of a great romantic comedy, telling the story of a mother’s desperate attempt to help her daughter find the right guy. Diane and Mandy’s mother-daughter chemistry is spot on and a joy to watch.

9 License To Wed (2007) – 7%

A severely underrated comedy starring Mandy Moore along with John Krasinski and the late great Robin Williams, License to Wed is a fun comedy telling the classic tale of the pressures of planning a wedding and getting married.

When the film opens, our couple, Ben and Sadie, are already together, happily in love. This isn’t a story of these two falling in love, but about Mandy and John’s characters falling into marriage, which in this film, doesn’t come without its fair share of obstacles, the biggest being the meddling and nosy priest, Reverend Frank, played by Robin Williams.

8 Chasing Liberty (2004) – 18%

In the early 2000’s, Mandy Moore seemed to be the new queen of teen rom-coms, starring in quite a few love stories, including Chasing Liberty.

Mandy plays Anna Foster, who is the daughter of the President of the United States, but desperately wants to have a normal, teenage life. She meets Ben, who seems to be a normal guy, and she falls for him, but the sweet teenage butterflies don’t last long because Ben has a secret and Anna won’t like what she discovers about her new boyfriend.

7 How To Deal (2003) – 27%

Another teen romance story on Mandy’s resume, with this film leaning more toward the romantic-comedy genre and not appealing to critics or audiences nearly as much as some of Mandy’s other work.

Mandy plays a more rebellious teen in this story by the name of Hailey Martin. Hailey is going through a lot, her parents’ divorce, her best friend getting pregnant, her sister marrying the wrong guy; making love a pretty foreign concept to her, that is until she meets Macon who could, and does, change everything for Hailey.

6 A Walk To Remember (2002) – 27%

Though this wasn’t Mandy’s first big acting job, it’s probably the one most fans would consider to be her breakout role. Trading in her signature, pop-star blonde locks for a more serious brunette look, Mandy leads this film, the first in the Nicholas Sparks teen romance genre, and audiences fall in love with her and the story.

This film’s audience score is significantly higher than its critical Tomatometer, with audiences giving it a stunning 78%. The high audience approval is what gives A Walk To Remember the edge against How To Deal, which it tied with in terms of Tomatometer ratings.

5 American Dreamz (2006) – 38%

A satirical film focusing on both pop culture and politics in the early’s millennium, American Dreamz is a somewhat underrated comedy by the Weitz brothers, who are also responsible for films like, American Pie, and About A Boy, which earned the brothers an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

American Dreamz didn’t garner nearly as much attention and praise as it deserved, and Mandy gives a stellar performance as want-to-be midwestern pop star, Sally Kendoo.

4 Midway (2019) – 43%

Midway has been deemed the most expensive independent film ever made, with director Roland Emmerich and his producers raising over $100 million dollars just to get this World War 2 epic rolling.

The story centers around fighter and bomber pilots in WW2 right after the attack on Pearl Harbor, as the US prepares to retaliate, but must move carefully if they’re going to be successful. Mandy plays Ann Best, the wife of Dick Best who was a dive bomber pilot in the war. Mandy provides a much needed female voice to this action packed telling of true events.

3 Saved! (2004) – 61%

This is one of those films that always seems to do better with audiences than it does with critics. The critics’ reviews were a little more harsh and mild at best, but Saved!’s audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is a whopping 78%.

Since its premiere in 2004, Saved! has developed somewhat of a cult following thanks to its taboo storyline and eccentric cast of characters. Mandy really leans into the “good girl” stereotypes as Hilary Faye, a conservation Christian teenager who, despite all the good she does, is really the villain in this film.

2 Tangled (2010) – 89%

Being able to put Disney Princess on your resume is a pretty cool honor, and one that Mandy Moore received in 2010 when she voiced Rapunzel in Disney’s Tangled. Mandy makes a great Disney princess with her sweet voice and musical abilities, it seemed to be a natural fit and both audiences and critics praised the film and Mandy’s work in it.

This beautifully animated Disney film boasts an incredible soundtrack with Mandy singing the majority of the songs, letting her get back to her singing roots – much to the delight of her older fans.

1 This Is Us (2016 – ) – 91%

This is Us has been scoring high with audiences and critics alike, pretty consistently over its last four seasons on the air. It’s still one of the most watched prime time television shows. So big was its success that mid-way through its third season, it was given a massive three season renewal by NBC.

This all but guaranteed viewers a full six seasons (at the least) with the Pearson family. Mandy Moore led the crew as Rebecca Person, the mother of three triplets and a widow who’s living a life that seems so ordinary yet so epic all at the same time.
