Reality series have been around for decades, and even Netflix is getting into the game now with its own slate of shows. In fact, in 2020 alone, the streaming service released dozens of reality shows of all kinds. The shows range from competition series about everything from cooking to making floral arrangements, finding a lifelong mate, and even catfishing others.

Some of the reality series have fallen flat while others have become the most-talked-about shows of the year. Here are the series that have been best thus far, based on Rotten Tomatoes’ average Tomatometer. (Note that several Netflix reality shows aren’t rated at all on Rotten Tomatoes and thus could not be included).

10 The Big Flower Fight – 53%

For those who don’t get excited about cooking shows but love gardening, there is actually a show that works. Instead of competitors baking delicious desserts or making lovely crafts, this competition series pits florists against one another to see who is really the best at their art.

An expert judging panel analyzes the final products and crowns a winner at the end. Premiering in May – perfect timing as Spring is in full swing – competitors in season one have made everything from huge hairy beasts to giant insects.

9 Indian Matchmaking – 65%

Viewers seem to love shows about love, and this one focuses specifically on people of Indian descent. It centers around Sima Taparia, a Mumbai-based marriage consultant who has a special knack for bringing people together thanks to learning as much as she can about each party along with her many years of experience and instinct.

Eight episodes of Indian Matchmaking were released in July, and while the show has received mixed reviews, some have praised it for combining modern dating concepts with thousands of years of tradition. Viewers are left wondering if this show ended up yielding better success with the couples than most.

8 Floor is Lava – 67%

It’s kooky and fun but the perfect reality show to watch with the whole family. Indeed, the concept of Floor is Lava is based on the popular children’s game where kids run, jump, and dodge imaginary lava on the floor.

The idea of the reality show is much the same, with elaborate obstacles, including both easy and difficult ones. Teams race against the clock and must compete together to get the most members to the end of the course without touching the floor which is made of pretend lava.

7 Love is Blind – 70%

When people heard what this show was about, they rolled their eyes at the ridiculousness of it all. Yet people watched and continued watching. Before anyone knew what was happening, Love is Blind became the most-talked-about show early in the year.

Singles chat with other singles in pods where they can’t see one another but can hear one another’s’ voices. Should anyone decide that they’ve found the love of their life, they can propose and then meet in person. Of the couples that take the leap, the show then follows them as they see one another for the first time, go on a honeymoon, move in together, and plan their wedding. It’s so backward but oddly, it worked. A second season is in the works.

6 Sing On! – 75%

Does the world really need another singing competition? If Netflix has anything to say about it, yes. And this one got attention thanks to its ever-engaging host Tituss Burgess, best known for his starring role in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and the original concept.

Teams of six singers perform five songs of the same theme, but there’s a twist: they must sing in an assigned order, regardless of the random order of the lines they are set to belt out. The better they sing despite getting tripped up, the more money they earn and a better chance of advancing to the next round.

5 Cooked with Cannabis – 80%

The name says it all: the idea behind this show is to put a clever spin on everyday cooking. While the show sees a variety of standard and unique dishes being made, they all have one thing in common: marijuana is the main ingredient.

There are only six episodes in the first season but learn how to make cuisines from Mexico to Africa and dishes like sativa-infused mealworm and candied yam waffles, all with that one signature ingredient. Enjoy plenty of guest stars, too, from Ricki Lake to Too $hort.

4 The Circle – 81%

It’s one of those reality shows viewers begin watching and can’t believe what they’re watching But after one episode, then two, and three, it’s official, and they get invested. The concept of The Circle is somewhat original: competitors are quarantined in the same apartment complex but different suites. They can only communicate with one another using a text-based artificial intelligence. And the only thing they know about one another is what’s provided in a very limited “social” profile.

Is each person really who they say they are or are they catfishing one another? The show is Big Brother meets Catfish, and given the popularity of both of those shows, it’s no surprise this one did well, with a second season forthcoming. It was about more than drama, though, and was more so an eye-opening social experiment on how easily people can be manipulated online and judge others.

3 (Un)well – 86%

While many might classify this show as a docuseries, some of the content and approach has made (Un)well better classified as a reality show. The central focus is on various treatments that are promoted by the “wellness” industry, from tantric sex to essential oils.

While the series has been criticized for neglecting to reveal important facts about certain methods, it’s designed to be entertaining and thought-provoking. And judging from the high rating, it has achieved this goal.

2 Get Organized With The Home Edit – 86%

Clea and Joanna are expert home organizers who visit their clients to help them organize clutter in their homes and create more appealing, open, and refreshing spaces. They handle entire rooms, like kitchens, as well as smaller spaces like closets, and work with everyday people as well as celebrities.

The first season featured celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Molly Sims, Khloe Kardashian, and Neil Patrick Harris within the eight episodes.

1 Love on the Spectrum – 100%
