Disney+ has been the perfect vessel by which many of the studio’s most famous and beloved shows, movies, shorts, and specials have found a new audience with a new generation of fans. But even with its tremendous library of content, subscribers who grew up with the Disney Channel from its origins have still found a few pieces missing.
Fans of Disney from the mid-eighties onward have a laundry list of shows still lacking from the service’s vault of media, but there’s always time to improve. Even though they’ve not been formally introduced, Disney has always encouraged fans to dream.
10 The Ink and Paint Club
While the streaming service does have a selection of original short films by Walt Disney Pictures, this idea could be further explored with the inclusion of The Ink and Paint Club. The Ink and Paint Club was essentially a series of early Disney cartoons shown in succession that all fit a specific theme.
As simple as that sounds, it was the best way to experience classic Disney features. Everything from the adventures of Mickey Mouse to Walt Disney’s Silly Symphonies was shown, and it offered a perfect pallet of animation artistry.
9 PB&J Otter
PB&J earns a mention simply out of pure, unadulterated adorableness. If ever there was a cartoon series that taught viewers how to use their noodles, it was this one. It was one of the first made for Playhouse Disney in the late ’90s, and it followed the adventures of Peanut, Butter, and Jelly Otter and their friends on Lake Hoohaw.
Charming, sweet, and silly are just a few words used to describe this show. Perfect for young viewers or old viewers who grew up watching it in its original run.
8 Microscopic Milton
Microscopic Milton is a curious series that aired on Disney from CBBC. Milton himself is a tiny man who lives in a mantle clock, is best friends with an old woman’s dog, and goes on many adventures that show the world through a tiny perspective.
Such episodes include exploring a vacuum cleaner, an encounter with space creatures, and a perilous trip to the supermarket for a cornflake and a baked bean. At roughly five minutes long apiece, they serve as a short, sweet, and whimsical interlude between binging sessions.
7 Nightmare Ned
One of Disney’s more dark and even disturbing projects was a little show called Nightmare Ned. In this lost series, viewers followed the overactive imagination of the nerdy and neurotic Ned across a multitude of Tim-Burton-esque nightmares and dreamscapes.
For lack of better terms, this series was mainly an excuse for Disney animators to show off their strange side, as Ned had to battle everything from evil puppets to killer roller coasters. A few episodes are currently available on YouTube and should definitely be added to the streaming series.
6 Adventures in Wonderland
It would be worth putting Adventures in Wonderland on the service simply because of how weird the show was. Inspired by Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, this show used puppets, special make-up effects, and other techniques to create Alice’s whimsical world.
This psychedelic show for young viewers essentially had Alice dealing with a real-world problem she would eventually have to solve for her Wonderland friends. Simple, but the insane visuals and effects are the real reason to stick around for this trip down the rabbit hole.
5 Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
Considering how popular Pixar’s Toy Story franchise is, it’s really quite a wonder that this series hasn’t made the transition on to the streaming service yet. With Pixar’s collection of shorts readily available, why hasn’t Buzz Lightyear’s solo series joined the rest of the toys?
Buzz Lightyear leading a team of Space Rangers against Evil Emporer Zurg, why wouldn’t Disney+ have that? Honestly, this show really was perfect for Buzz’s spaceman superhero origins. It truly captures anything and everything fans could want from a Saturday-morning cartoon and then some.
4 Muppets Tonight
Considered by many as a more contemporary follow-up to the original from the ’70s, this show featuring everyone’s favorite felt performers is definitely a step away from the recently added Muppet Show.
Hosted by Clifford, this take on the variety show formula has more of an SNL feel to it, including different acts going on and off-camera. And with appearances from stars like Rick Moranis, Sandra Bullock, and Prince, it never fails to be entertaining.
3 Bear in the Big Blue House
Welcome-welcome-welcome to the big blue house! Yet another Jim Henson favorite shockingly missing, as Bear in the Big Blue House was a Playhouse Disney staple for many years.
Whether for an old viewer’s sheer nostalgia or just to share with a new generation of Disney fans, it’s hard to think of reasons Bear and all his friends wouldn’t do well on the service. Any cottagecore fans will definitely appreciate the different levels of coziness and wholesome energy that practically radiates from this ’90s favorite.
2 Welcome to Pooh Corner
Bear from the Big Blue House wasn’t the only yellow furry friend on Disney Channel. Winnie-the-Pooh is definitely one of the company’s most marketable characters, and they have already put as much of Pooh’s material as they can. But true Disney historians will notice that one specific show is missing, his first.
Welcome to Pooh Corner was Winnie the Pooh’s first TV show, and while it is incredibly dated, there are Disney fans who remember it fondly. Since the service already has nearly everything else, why not complete the collection?
1 House of Mouse
If there’s one animated series that fans have continuously begged to be put back on Disney+, it’s the House of Mouse. Not only does this series need a return, but it also needs a reboot. Seeing so many famous Disney characters under one roof is the ultimate act of fan service, why not bring it back?
Disney has the biggest cast of animated characters out of any studio on the planet, and seeing them in a place they can mix and mingle will always be a fantastic idea.
