A ton of characters are appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, like Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin, but what Spidey characters likely won’t return?

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

The new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed a universe of characters returning from previous iterations of the Spider-Man franchise, including Doctor Octopus, Electro, and more. While it’s likely that even more characters from those movies and beyond will appear, there are some characters from earlier movies that likely won’t be making a return to the big screen.

There are also existing or upcoming live-action characters in the MCU or Sony’s Spider-Man Universe that could appear, but unless the movie truly goes all-out in the final battle, probably won’t. Lots of surprises are in store for fans in the movie, but these characters are probably not among them.

10 Venom (Topher Grace)

Venom could very well appear in the movie, at least the Tom Hardy version. But one villain from the Sam Raimi movies who is unlikely to return though is the version of Venom played by Topher Grace. While some fans feel that Spider-Man 3 is underrated, one thing that didn’t exactly work about it was the take on the iconic supervillain.

All of the villains seen in the trailer are ones that have no analog yet in the MCU. At this point, it seems unlikely that the MCU would miss an opportunity to bring in the Tom Hardy Venom over the Topher Grace one.

9 Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard)

Gwen Stacy also doesn’t have an analog in the MCU, at least not yet. But it seems unlikely the version Bryce Dallas Howard played in Spider-Man 3 will return. This version of one of Spider-Man’s greatest love interests in the comics wasn’t developed very much in the movie. It’s also hard to see what role she would play in No Way Home.

Bryce Dallas Howard is also potentially an actress (and director) who could be involved in the MCU in another capacity, so leaving that door open makes a ton of sense at this point.

8 Dr. Curtis Connors (Dylan Baker)

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

A version of The Lizard is appearing in No Way Home, but it’s unlikely that another one will appear. Unless the movie gets truly crazy with unlimited variants, fans shouldn’t expect to see Dr. Curtis Connors, as played by Dylan Baker in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies.

It’s somewhat of a shame, as Baker never got to play The Lizard, who was set up to be. The character appeared in the second and third Raimi movies, with the idea that he would emerge as the villain in the ultimately unmade Spider-Man 4.

7 Betty Brant (Elizabeth Banks)

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

As fun as it would be to see Elizabeth Banks return to one of her earliest roles, it’s unlikely the Sam Raimi era Betty Brant will return. Brant would have no real role to play in No Way Home, except perhaps for some connection to J. Jonah Jameson. Brant worked at The Daily Bugle with him in the Raimi trilogy.

It’s hard to see what function she would play in the movie beyond a mere cameo, and it’s likely given the structure of the story that any characters from the Raimi movies beyond the villains will be major characters.

6 Felicia Hardy (Felicity Jones)

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

There are many versions of Black Cat in Marvel Comics, but so far, none in any movie iteration of Spider-Man. It’s unlikely one will appear in No Way Home, though her alter ego, Felicia Hardy, did appear in the Andrew Garfield movies. Felicity Jones played the character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as the assistant of Harry Osborn.

Black Cat is certain to be a villain in the MCU at some point, and the new movie could theoretically introduce her. It’s unlikely it will as her debut would be overshadowed by the appearance of so many other major villains.

5 Mr. Ditkovich

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

A villain, of sorts, from the Sam Raimi movies, Mr. Ditkovich is unlikely to appear in the new movie. The landlord of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man was always looking for the rent and made for some great comedic moments, but there’s simply no room for him in this movie.

The two had a better relationship in the third Raimi movie, where Mr. Ditkovich seemed more understanding of Peter Parker’s troubles. If No Way Home manages to revisit the Maguire Spider-Man in his apartment, he might appear, but it’s unlikely.

4 Kraven The Hunter

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

Comic book fans know Kraven The Hunter is a founding member of the Sinister Six, so his absence from what is shaping up to be their first live-action appearance is notable. They also know he is coming in his own solo movie, but like with Black Cat, it’s unlikely he’ll appear in No Way Home. Introducing him alongside so many villains might diminish the character.

A cameo is certainly possible to establish the character, and it’s also possible the Sinister Six goes on beyond this movie. But the odds are against him given the focus is likely to be on other major villains.

3 Scorpion

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

Scorpion has been a member of the Sinister Six at times in Marvel Comics and did make a cameo appearance in Spider-Man Homecoming, but unless the movie throws all of Spider-Man’s existing villains at him, it’s unlikely he appears in the new movie.

Scorpion is definitely on the board for future appearances and possible team-ups with other bad guys, but the focus seems to be villains from other universes. That would seem to disqualify him, at least for this movie.

2 Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone)

10 Characters Most Likely NOT In SpiderMan No Way Home

Gwen Stacy died in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but that alone isn’t enough to preclude an appearance, given the villains in the new movie are mostly ones who died before. Like with the Bryce Dallas Howard Gwen Stacy, it’s difficult to see what role there would be for her in the story, beyond the specter of her death haunting a returning Andrew Garfield.

It’s almost certain Spider-Gwen will appear in live-action at some point, and while it would be great to see Emma Stone in the role, it’s probably not going to be in this movie.

1 Harry Osborn (James Franco)

Harry Osborn ultimately became a villain by the end of the Sam Raimi trilogy, following in his father’s footsteps as the Green Goblin. Norman Osborn is returning in No Way Home, but it’s unlikely his son will.

The MCU Peter Parker has no relationship with Harry Osborn, and no real time in the movie to establish it. Given the current controversy surrounding actor, James Franco, it doesn’t seem as though there is much chance the character will make an appearance.
