The mid-credits scene in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings generated a lot of questions, but also a lot of laughs. It was a prime example of the MCU’s ability to use mid and post-credits scenes in different ways, often creating some of the funniest scenes in their respective movies in the process. Some of them are the most hilarious scenes in the MCU.
Beyond Shang-Chi, many other MCU movies use one (or both in some cases) of their final scenes to give fans something to laugh about on their way out of the theater. The best are completely unexpected, and dovetail in perfectly with generating a ton of speculation and intrigue about what will happen next.
10 Loki
Episode five of Loki ended with the series only post-credits scene, and though it was brief, it was very funny. Fans likely had as many questions as laughs when the Variant Loki woke up in a field surrounded by some of the best variants of the God of Mischief in the series or comics, including the instantly iconic Alligator Loki.
The presence of the reptilian Loki and the older Loki (played by Richard E. Grant) in his classic Marvel Comics costume was a lot of fun and keeping up with the gonzo tone of the entire series.
9 Black Widow
The final scene of Black Widow likely had fans guessing where The Contessa will appear next, but it also had them laughing. They might have been laughing uncomfortably at The Contessa’s awkward stabs at humor at the gravesite of Natasha Romanoff, which didn’t exactly endear her to the still-grieving Yelena Belova.
Still, it was another example of the MCU blending humor with intrigue, especially with the mysterious character of The Contessa, whose glib sensibility masks a sinister intent yet to be revealed.
8 Iron Man 3
The Iron Man movies are very funny in general and the post-credits scene for Iron Man 3 is no exception. The scene features Tony Stark engaging in what appears to be some healthy counseling, but it’s revealed that he’s actually talking to his friend and colleague Dr. Bruce Banner.
The funniest part is Banner is falling asleep while Tony is talking. “You know, I’m not that kind of doctor,” Banner says after Tony Stark shouts at him to wake him up. It doesn’t have the intrigue of other post-credits scenes, but it’s one of the funnier ones.
7 Spider-Man: Far From Home
One of the post-credits scenes for Spider-Man: Far From Home is as funny as it is intriguing. Fans find out that S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Maria Hill were Skrulls in disguise all along, specifically Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and his partner Soren from the Captain Marvel movie.
The scene generates laughs as Talos comments on how convincing he was as Nick Fury. He gets a bit carried away in the conversation as he’s prone to do, before being reminded by Soren to contact Nick Fury out in space.
6 Ant-Man And The Wasp
2018’s Ant-Man And The Wasp is a funny movie in general, so it’s no surprise that one of its two post-credits scenes leans hard on humor. It’s even funnier given how shocking the scene began. Most of the cast is snapped out of existence by Thanos, leaving only a giant ant alone in Scott Lang’s house, playing the drums as the world shuts down outside.
It’s darkly funny in many ways and continues the tradition of the MCU not letting super serious moments like The Snap get too somber before lightening things up again in a subsequent scene.
5 Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
While Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 has a whopping five post-credits scenes, one of the funniest involves a great cameo by Stan Lee. In the scene, Stan Lee telling tall tales – potentially – to who turn out to be a pair of Watchers.
MCU fans will surely recognize them now from Uatu, The Watcher who narrates the What If..? animated series. It’s funny to watch The Watchers simply turn away as Stan Lee keeps regaling them with his amazing exploits, a scene that also raises many intriguing theories about who Stan Lee’s character really is.
4 Spider-Man: Homecoming
One of the funniest MCU post-credits scenes also became an instant meme. The Captain America PSA commercial from the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming ranks high among all the rest for how meta it is. By this point, audiences had been primed to wait to the very end for potential scenes, and this scene makes some light of that by having Captain America comment on the value of waiting.
The moment capitalized on earlier scenes from the movie that featured Captain America in very ’80s commercials aimed at high school students that were also hysterical.
3 Guardians Of The Galaxy
One of the funniest post-credits scenes in the entire MCU occurs at the end of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, where fans see that Groot isn’t dead but is already flowering into a mini-Groot. More than that, he’s dancing along with the music in the movie, but trying not to be seen by Drax The Destroyer.
The scene is a perfect distillation of the sweet and funny nature of the movie, making baby Groot an instant star and leaving fans on a high note going out of the movie theater in 2014.
2 The Avengers
Most MCU post-credits scenes offer some kind of tease or direction toward the future, but the shawarma scene from the first Avengers movie in 2012 stands out for how simple and funny it is.
At the end of the Battle of New York, Iron Man suggests the team get some shawarma afterward and the short but sweet final scene shows them exhausted and full as they eat in a restaurant that is still cleaning up from the chaos of the battle. It’s simple and funny and sets the stage for many similar scenes in the future.

One of the funniest post-credits scenes in the entire MCU happens in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings. After setting up an outstanding mystery in where the Ten Rings could be from, the scene transitions from Kamar-Taj to a karaoke bar somewhere in San Francisco.
Shang-Chi, Katy, and Wong all join together to sing a drunken version of “Hotel California” by the Eagles that pays off the song’s funny thread throughout the movie and gives fans yet another reason to love Wong.
