All of the MCU’s movies have a strong sense of humor, but some are more overtly comedic than others. With writing credits for Anchorman director Adam McKay and Paul Rudd himself, Ant-Man is closer to a full-blown comedy than possibly any other entry in the franchise.

In fact, Ant-Man has more in common with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids than The Dark Knight, drawing visual humor and sight gags from Hank Pym’s ability to grow and shrink human beings (and a bunch of other stuff). These visual jokes are the funniest from Ant-Man’s solo series.

10 Hope’s Tiny Car

In the first few scenes of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scott is under house arrest. When he’s contacted by Janet van Dyne from the Quantum Realm, he has a reason to get in touch with Hank and Hope, who are still mad that he took the Ant-Man suit to Berlin without permission.

As Scott is driven around by Hope, he realizes that the other cars on the road are a lot bigger and Hope is driving him around in a car that she shrunk down to the size of a Hot Wheels toy.

9 A Laboratory With A Suitcase Handle

A briefcase is a pretty common MacGuffin, like the glowing one seen in Pulp Fiction. The MacGuffin in Ant-Man and the Wasp is actually a whole laboratory, but it’s the size of a briefcase because Hank is able to shrink it down to the size of a dollhouse.

He’s even fitted the building with a handle and a couple of wheels so he can move it around easier when it’s shrunken down.

8 “Disguises”

Since Scott is supposed to be under house arrest and Hank and Hope are in a little legal trouble of their own throughout Ant-Man and the Wasp, they all have to disguise themselves when they’re in public. But Hank just hands out baseball caps and sunglasses, reasoning, “No one’s gonna recognize us.”

Scott quips, “What, because of hats and sunglasses? That’s not a disguise, Hank, we look like ourselves at a baseball game!”

7 Giant-Man Wading Through The Ocean To A Ferry

Scott’s Giant-Man form was first introduced in Captain America: Civil War when he enlarged himself in the midst of the airport battle and plucked War Machine out of the sky. The Giant-Man form returned in Ant-Man and the Wasp’s final battle.

When Scott’s in his Giant-Man form, he hops in the ocean like it’s a swimming pool and wades through to try to talk to the passengers of a ferry.

6 Cassie’s Dog-Sized Pet Ant

In the midst of Ant-Man’s final battle, an ant gets blown up to the size of a dog. In the aftermath of the battle, the ant is never shrunken back down. Instead, Cassie just adopts it as a pet.

There are some dark implications to the existence of this pet ant. It would either suffocate because ants don’t have lungs, which is why they need to be so small, or be crushed under the weight of its own exoskeleton. But as a sight gag, it’s a lot of fun.

5 Closeup Magic

There’s a running gag throughout Ant-Man and the Wasp that Scott has been getting into closeup magic under house arrest. Some people couldn’t care less about his magic tricks, but others are entranced by them. He even inspires Agent Woo to take up closeup magic himself.

If Doctor Strange, Wong, and the Scarlet Witch struggle to keep the multiverse of madness under control with all their magical powers combined, they could give the MCU’s other master sorcerer a call.

4 Giant-Man Using Cars As Skateboards

When Walton Goggins’ charismatic crime boss Sonny Burch gets a hold of Hank Pym’s shrunken lab, Ant-Man and the Wasp chase him and his goons across the hilly streets of San Francisco.

Scott takes on the Giant-Man form and hops on the roof of a car to use it as a skateboard and pick up speed to catch up to Burch and his goons.

3 Thomas The Tank Engine

During Ant-Man’s climactic fight with Yellowjacket, the scuffle takes them all across the city. They fight in a helicopter and inside a falling briefcase and even in a family’s backyard pool. They end up in Cassie’s bedroom on her Thomas the Tank Engine train track.

Ant-Man gets out of the way of the speeding train in time, but Yellowjacket isn’t so lucky. An epic, dramatic, cinematic shot of the train bearing down on the supervillain is hilariously contrasted with a mundane wide shot of a toy train falling off its track. This gag feels like a holdover from Edgar Wright’s original vision.

2 Child-Sized Scott

When Scott has to pick up some shrunken tech from Cassie’s backpack, he sneaks into the school by shrinking down to a child’s size. The oversized hoodie makes this gag even funnier.

The whole time that Scott is the size of a little kid, Hope and Hank can’t help making jokes. When he gets in the car, Hank says, “Hiya, champ, how was school today?”

1 Trial By Fire

After Scott steals the Ant-Man suit from Hank’s safe, he unwittingly shrinks for the first time in his bathtub and Hank gives him a “trial by fire.”

This montage is filled with hilarious visual gags: he flees from the water filling the bathtub, he gets attacked by a giant rat, he gets picked up by a vacuum cleaner, he desperately clings to a spinning record on a DJ’s turntable. Ant-Man got its human shrinking antics off to a terrific start in this sequence.
