10 Hidden Details In The Birds of Prey Movie Poster That Fans Missed

Both fans and critics are loving the DCEU’s Birds of Prey. The Harley Quinn movie’s poster art is full of Easter eggs and hint about the story.

The DCEU’s Birds of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn recently hit cinemas and has been receiving critical praise from a variety of outlets. Now that the film is available it’s much easier to understand the marketing material, especially the poster.

There are plenty of secrets hidden within the artwork that tell us something about the movie. From character details to major plot points, a little bit of everything is included. Here are 10 of those hidden details that you might have missed in the Birds of Prey poster.

10 EXPLOSION ACE CHEMICALS

There’s a huge explosion framing this whole poster that actually hints to a moment that we’ve previously seen in the trailer. In order to get over her breakup with the Joker, Harley Quinn makes a statement that no one can ignore.

She blows up ACE Chemicals, where her journey with Mr. J really did start. The poster sees this huge explosion, signifying the emancipation as well as the badass walk away that Quinn is doing, which parallels the same walk in the film.

9 BLACK MASK’S FATE

Speaking of explosions, this next point contains a major spoiler for Black Mask’s fate, so look away now if you haven’t seen the film. The conclusion has Black Mask pushed over the side of a pier with a grenade, exploding into hundreds of pieces.

There’s no Black Mask in this poster but there is an explosion with bits flying out of it. This is very symbolic of the death of Siones, with the poster essentially spoiling what happens to the villain of the film.

8 FINAL FIGHT WEAPONS

The final fight of the film sees the Birds of Prey having to make do with the weapons available. Montoya takes on some brass knuckles, Harley finds her trademark mallet, and even Black Canary picks up a baseball bat to use.

The poster sees the Birds of Prey using all of these weapons. While they may not all be the traditional weapons associated with some of the characters, the marketing highlights exactly how the action will go down against Black Mask’s goons.

7 MONTOYA FORMER POLICE

Montoya is the only member of the Birds of Prey with an above board profession. She was previously a part of the Gotham City Police Department, but she was overlooked for far too long. Comic fans will know she eventually takes on the identity of the Question.

The character’s roots are shown in the poster, however. She’s wearing her blue police shirt, though it has been modified slightly to show that she’s no longer a part of the force. This is strong foreshadowing for the journey of the character.

6 JOKER TATTOOS

The Joker and Harley have plenty of tattoos that represent a wide variety of things. Of course, many of Harley’s tattoos are in honor of her ex-boyfriend. During the film she can be seen making some new tats and then editing them slightly.

On her leg you can see where some things are crossed out and there are a couple of new markings. These all take place in the film and continue to demonstrate the journey that she is going on to completely reject the Clown Prince of Crime.

5 CAIN’S POCKETS

Cassandra Cain is a pickpocket throughout the film. An orphan with very little to her name, Cain gets by through being resourceful and stealing from rich people. She’s rather good at it, even managing to steal from Harley herself.

Cain plays a vital part in the film after she swallows the diamond that everyone is after. The character’s light fingers are demonstrated in the poster as her pockets are completely full of robbed items. This is an effective way of demonstrating Cain’s background.

4 BRUCE’S ATTITUDE

Bruce the hyena is actually a pretty loving pet. However, there are a few moments where he shows quite a lot of aggression. The first is when he bites and kills the creepy pet owner. The second is when a bomb hits the house.

The choice to have Bruce looking quite aggressive on the poster is an interesting one as it doesn’t really fit the character. In combat he would be this violent, but it’s odd since he’s not in the final fight. This is therefore to throw audiences off, so they question his apparent death.

3 CANARY’S CRY

Black Canary brings out her famous cry right at the last minute when it’s really needed. It’s teased throughout the film, though, and even in the poster. You can see Canary wearing a choker round her neck, which sometimes houses a synthetic scream in other mediums.

Her mouth is open in the fight as well, as if she is about to unleash one of her deadly yells. This is really the turning point for the team as it slows Black Mask down just long enough so Quinn can catch up and exact her revenge.

2 BADASS HUNRTRESS

The Huntress is the most experienced fighter of the group. Even Quinn admits she’s a badass. She’s trained for years to get exactly what she wants, creating a kill list not too dissimilar to a later partner, the Green Arrow.

The poster sees her in all her glory with crossbow in hand. Only two characters on the poster have their iconic weapons in use and Huntress is one of them. What’s more, her leap into the sky is reminiscent of some of the moves she pulls in the final sequence.

1 FINAL FORMATION

The final formation of the film sees all these female warriors team up. However, there are two distinct groupings. The last Birds of Prey consists of Huntress, Black Canary and Montoya. Harley Quinn and Cain go off separately.

The way the poster is designed, with the three Birds surrounding the two main characters, frames this in a way that makes it clear that Cain and Quinn will walk away from them at the end, but the other three will continue to clean up Gotham.
