10 Invasion Characters Ranked By Intelligence

There are few science fiction genres with as much enduring popularity as the alien invasion story. Something about the idea of creatures from outer space seeking to colonize Earth taps into a deep, primordial fear, and these are the anxieties that Invasion, the new series from Apple TV+, clearly exploits in its story of several groups of people trying to endure and triumph over the aliens.

Faced with so many grave challenges, the characters, both major and minor, show that they have enormous amounts of intelligence as they navigate this terrifying new world.

10 Ahmed Malik

When the series begins, Ahmed is not a terribly likable character, but he is clearly a shrewd one, as he manages to keep an affair secret from his wife and the rest of his family.

As the series goes on, he demonstrates that he’s a reasonably intelligent person, and he possesses a certain kind of cunning that allows him to always see a potential opportunity (most of which involve trying to escape his family). He may not be admirable, but he is smart.

9 Luke Malik

As the eldest child of Aneesha and Ahmed, Luke has some of the best and worst character traits from his parents. Most importantly, he seems to have a special connection with the aliens, and he seems to have the ability to be in touch with the aliens in ways that other people do not.

However, his mind proves to be something of a double-edged sword, since he also struggles to deal with the fact that his parents are clearly having marital difficulties. In the end, he becomes a rather unsettling (and downright) creepy child, like so many others in movies and TV.

8 Sheriff John Bell Tyson

Even though he is a relatively minor character–appearing in only the first episode–Sheriff John Bell Tyson is still a very intelligent character. Played by Sam Neill (who has been in a number of great movies himself), he’s clearly a member of law enforcement who is very skilled at what he does.

What’s more, he recognizes very early on that there is something amiss in the disappearance of some of the local vandals. Unfortunately, he doesn’t realize the full truth until it’s too late and he loses his life to the aliens.

7 Montgomery “Monty” Cuttermill

When a group of British schoolchildren are stranded after their bus crashes, all of them reveal something about themselves. While he is arguably one of the cruelest of the children, Monty also shows that he has a certain kind of malicious savviness.

He knows how to manipulate others, including Caspar, who he gets to admit to his troubled family history, mostly so he can use that as a weapon against him in future power struggles among the children over who will be their ultimate leader.

6 Ikuro Murai

10 Invasion Characters Ranked By Intelligence

Every science fiction show has to have its own resident scientist, the older man who knows more than he lets on, and that is the role that Ikuro Murai fills. He’s the father of one of the Japanese astronauts that disappears in space, and he shows that he is skilled when it comes to understanding sound.

More importantly, he also has a profound emotional intelligence that allows him to accept his daughter’s sexuality and in fact to encourage her to live her life only rather than remain in the closet.

5 Trevante Ward

10 Invasion Characters Ranked By Intelligence

Many great characters appear in science fiction television series, and Trevante Ward is a real standout in Invasion. Having endured several years in Afghanistan, he has clearly gone through a great deal, and yet he remains loyal to his soldiers and to the children that come under his care.

More than that, he’s also a very smart young man, as evidenced by the fact that he not only manages to survive the combat turmoil in Afghanistan, but also the aliens. In fact, he even manages to kill one of them by transforming a canister into a blowtorch.

4 Jamila Huston

Among the several children that appear in this series, Jamilia is one of the most intelligent, both in terms of her intellect and her emotions. She shows, even before the invasion, that she cares deeply about Caspar and will always defend him against others (including and especially Monty).

As the series progresses, she goes the extra mile in ensuring that her friend knows that she will always be by his side and that she will do what she can to make sure that nothing happens to him.

3 Caspar Morrow

10 Invasion Characters Ranked By Intelligence

Caspar is indisputably one of the brightest characters that appear in this series. His epilepsy gives him an extraordinary ability to contact the aliens, and he is willing to trigger one of them so that he can save lives.

His astute mind allows him to see the necessity of inhabiting the alien consciousness, even though he seems to recognize at some level that it’s going to have an extraordinary cost in terms of his own physical well-being (which it most certainly does). By the end of the series, he’s become like a hero out of a great war movie.

2 Aneesha Malik

10 Invasion Characters Ranked By Intelligence

Aneesha Malik is one of this show’s most fascinating characters, as she has to contend with both her husband’s infidelity and also with the fact that her entire world falls apart. However, she is a fiercely intelligent woman, as evidenced by the fact that, even though she is no longer involved in becoming a surgeon, she still keeps her medical skill.

Indeed, it’s precisely her talents as a surgeon that prove to be very helpful in fighting the aliens and in caring for the injured.

1 Mitsuki Yamato

Of all of the characters that appear in Invasion, Mitsuki is arguably the smartest character. She’s not only very skilled when it comes to technology, she also realizes that her lover might still be alive, or at the very least that the aliens have learned how to use her voice to communicate with them.

Her intellect meshes with her indomitable will, a stubbornness that leads her to do everything that she can try to save her beloved from the efforts to bomb the aliens, and even though she is not successful, she nevertheless deserves respect for being willing to attempt it.
