10 LowRated Christmas Movies On IMDb That Dont Deserve The Hate

Christmas movies are one of the most cherished traditions of all. There are some undeniable classics that make their way into homes every year, and it just doesn’t feel like Christmas without them. It seems like each year, there are countless new holiday films that are released, so much so that it is hard to keep up.

With so many Christmas movies, not all of them are going to be very popular in the eyes of fans. There are plenty of hidden gems that are widely ignored due to their low IMDb rating, but do they deserve so much hate?

10 Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) – 3.8

10 LowRated Christmas Movies On IMDb That Dont Deserve The Hate

Just because a movie is bad, doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable. The Christmas “classic,” Silent Night, Deadly Night, is one of the best known so-bad-it’s-good movies and the sequel is somehow even more absurd. While not a traditional Christmas movie in any sense, it is still a great movie to throw on for a few laughs.

The film follows Ricky Caldwell, the younger brother of the first film’s killer, Billy. Ricky plans to continue his brother’s legacy of taking out those he feels are naughty, all while dressed as Santa. The movie hits all the wrong notes in the most spectacular way and is a must-see for fans of hilariously bad films. In a strange way, it is a great holiday movie that many have probably never seen.

9 Home Alone 3 (1997) – 4.5

10 LowRated Christmas Movies On IMDb That Dont Deserve The Hate

The Home Alone series began losing steam after the first film. While the second film is still mostly seen as a classic, the third film is where fans started to thin out. The most obvious reason is that Kevin Mccallister isn’t present, and an entirely new child is the focus. It is hard to defend the later sequels, but Home Alone 3 really isn’t the worst thing imaginable.

The movie follows essentially the same plot as the first two, but it is still done in a somewhat enjoyable way. The traps don’t really pack the same punch as the first two Home Alone movies, and some of them even fall flat. But Max, the main child, is still an enjoyable protagonist that can carry the film. While not the best in the series, it is far from the worst.

8 The Santa Clause 3 (2006) – 4.8

10 LowRated Christmas Movies On IMDb That Dont Deserve The Hate

The 1994 Tim Allen-led Christmas movie, The Santa Clause, is seen as a classic in the eyes of many, while the following two films seemed to decline in quality. The third film follows Scott Calvin, as he is tricked by Jack Frost into giving up his role as Santa. The movie may be seen as childish as it is missing the slight mature edge the first film had.

Besides the low score, it is still a fun movie with a decent message. Everybody gets stressed and frustrated at Christmastime, but the important thing is realizing the good in one’s life and accepting when they are wrong. The film may not be as good as the original The Santa Clause, which is filled with some funny quotes, but it is still a movie that deserves to be watched each year.

7 Deck The Halls (2006) – 5.0

Deck The Halls is a Christmas film that isn’t extremely well known but it isn’t the worst Christmas movie out there. If nothing else, it is enjoyable to see Matthew Brodrick and Danny DeVito compete in some over-the-top ways. The movie doesn’t hit every mark, in fact, there are several scenes that are downright hard to stomach, but at the end of the day, it is a fun and harmless comedy.

The film follows two neighbors who go to war over Christmas lights. Not every joke lands, but there are some legitimately funny ones and the two leads are side-splitting. The movie even has a fair amount of heart, as the characters have to put their egos aside to realize the most important parts of the holidays.

6 Eight Crazy Nights (2002) – 5.3

There are tons of Christmas movies, but there aren’t nearly as many Hannakuh related films. Perhaps one of the best known is Adam Sandler’s animated Eight Crazy Nights. Sandler stars as Davey, a man who is struggling to find his holiday spirit after a childhood tragedy. Admittedly, the film is filled with vulgar and oftentimes gross jokes, but the heart shines throughout it all.

The movie brings the Hannakuh holiday to an audience that may not be as familiar with it and does it in a traditional Adam Sandler way. Certain aspects don’t hold up extremely well, such as an offensive performance by Rob Schnider as a waiter, but it is still a well-meaning movie that deserves a shot. The movie ranks modestly among Sandler’s other movies and does hold some laughs.

5 Christmas With The Kranks (2004) – 5.4

Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis lead the film as the titular Kranks, a married couple who plan on skipping Christmas and going on a cruise. When their daughter reveals she is returning home for the holidays, the two must rush to get things prepared for her return.

The movie is filled with slapstick and more than a few funny quotes, making it an entertaining choice to put on at Christmas. The characters are what drive the film, and they carry it into the homes of countless families during the holidays.

4 Unaccompanied Minors (2006) – 5.4

10 LowRated Christmas Movies On IMDb That Dont Deserve The Hate

Unaccompanied Minors follows a group of kids after they get snowed in at an airport at Christmas. The movie may not be the most realistic in terms of how unaccompanied minors are dealt with, but it is still a fun movie the whole family can enjoy. The main cast of kids is likable and makes the film highly entertaining.

There are certainly some scenes of silly slapstick and predictable kids jokes, but they don’t derail the film completely. The movie has become mostly forgotten in the years following its release, which is a shame because it deserves far more recognition. This is a flick that would fit in perfectly with any family’s Christmas viewing.

3 Santa’s Slay (2005) – 5.4

Another Christmas-themed slasher is Santa’s Slay. Unlike Silent Night, Deadly Night, Santa’s Slay is totally self-aware and celebrates how ridiculous it is. The movie is about Santa, who in this world is actually an evil blood-thirsty man who lost a bet to an angel. Because he lost the bet, he had to spend centuries being nice and jolly.

When his punishment is over, he is free to be himself, and the consequences are deadly. WWE superstar, Goldberg, plays Santa, and he gives a fun and silly turn as the murderous Kris Kringle. The movie has some legitimate laughs and is perfect for fans of the macabre who want to get a little festive.

2 Jack Frost (1998) – 5.4

1998’s Jack Frost has developed quite the cult following since its release. The plot is about a father who returns from the grave in the form of his son’s snowman. The movie has plenty of heart and is highly enjoyable as a touching family film. While not the most flawless film in existence, far from it, in fact, it is still a heartwarming movie that has all the gushy feelings Christmas movies should have.

Interestingly enough, the title role was originally intended for George Clooney, as reported by CheatSheet, but he left to make Batman & Robin. The role was taken over by Michael Keaton, who played the same role as Batman in 1989 and 1992. The animatronic snowman is seen in the final product still resembles Geoge Clooney.

1 Mixed Nuts (1994) – 5.5

The Steve Martin-led comedy, Mixed Nuts, bombed when it was originally released, receiving mostly negative reviews. In the years since the movie has received a well-deserved cult following, yet not enough people know about it. The movie follows the mishaps of a crisis hotline during Christmas. It has some brilliantly dark comedy and, as all great Christmas films should have, plenty of heart.

The movie seems to become more relevant with each passing year, and more and more people are discovering it. The cast of the film is fantastic, featuring the talents of Adam Sandler and Madeline Khan. The movie isn’t that well known, but it is one that should be viewed during the holidays and deserves classic status.
