In the world of comedic television, MADtv was a giant. The show ran between 1995 and 2009 and stayed on the air for a whopping fourteen seasons. During its stint, it showcased dozens upon dozens of talented and funny actors and actresses. Many of these hilarious people took their stint on MADtv and used it to propel them to bigger and better things in the entertainment world.

Some went on to star in movies and sitcoms or produce and direct while others ventured into the theater. While many MADtv cast members never moved past their stand up routines, there were a handful who went on to have great success. There is no denying that television buffs have seen these faces many times over.

10 Michael McDonald

Michael McDonald joined the cast of MADtv and stayed until the end of the 13th season, serving as one of the funniest cast members, writer, and show director. His face has become synonymous with the hit series, but McDonald went on to do so much more in the entertainment business.

Following his work on MADtv, he focused his career on behind the camera work. He was a producer for the show Cougar Town and directed for hit series like Splitting Up Together, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Mike & Molly.

9 Debra Wilson

Actress Debra Wilson was the longest-serving original cast member. Like fellow funny talent, Michael McDonald, Wilson found great success in sectors of entertainment that were not necessarily in front of the cameras.

While he focused on writing, producing, and directing, she lent her voice to many hit shows. Fans of shows like American Dad, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will surely recognize her iconic voice. Wilson also popped in on hit shows such as Lost in Oz and Man with a Plan. Her voice and likeness were also used in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

8 Nicole Sullivan

Nicole Sullivan landed her role on MADtv and stayed a part of the production for six years. After leaving the series, she scored a role on the popular sitcom King of Queens, starring alongside Kevin James and Leah Remini.

Sullivan has continued in comedy and stars in the series Black-ish, portraying the Johnson family’s over-involved neighbor, Jaime. While many MADtv actors have stretched into areas other than comedic acting, it is clear that this line of work is definitely Nicole’s sweet spot.

7 Ike Barinholtz

Ike Barinholtz spent five seasons on MADtv but left to pursue different acting paths. He appeared in flicks such as Neighbors, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Suicide Squad, and Blockers.

Aside from being a part of major movie productions, he also scored serious writing cred by contributing to the comedic work, Central Intelligence, and The Oath, which he directed, wrote, and produced. Barinholtz has certainly proved his staying power in the industry.

6 Alex Borstein

Alex Borstein was once best known for playing fun Ms. Swan on MADtv, but these days she is known for far more than that! Borstein is the voice behind one of the most popular animated characters on television, Family Guy’s Lois Griffin.

She has also portrayed characters in shows such as Getting On and Bordertown. Her most recent major success was starring in the Amazon Prime giant, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The talented actress even went on to score an Emmy Award for her work on the show.

5 Nicole Parker

Nicole Parker starred on the comedy sketch show for six seasons and then moved into the wonderful world of Broadway, where she has made a real name for herself.

While Parker was working on MADtv, she also worked on comedian Martin Short’s musical production Fame Becomes Me. From there, Parker went on to land a part in the 2009 Broadway production of Wicked. She also worked on The People in the Picture in 2011.

4 Orlando Jones

Jones put in two years with MADtv and became widely recognized for his funny take on the character, Reverend LaMont Nixon Fatback. After two years, he went on to become the spokesperson for 7Up.

His face was suddenly everywhere and just about anyone and everyone knew who he was. Orlando Jones has worked with so many actors and on many hit shows. Most recently he acted on Sleepy Hollow and the STARZ hit, American Gods.

3 Simon Helberg

Many television fans don’t even know that actor Simon Helberg once appeared on MadTV. He joined the cast in 2002 and stayed for a single season.

A few years later, Helberg went on to be a part of one of the most famous sitcoms the world has ever known. In 2007, he landed a role that would catapult him into fame and notoriety when he played smart and quirky Howard Wolowitz in The Big Bang Theory.

2 Keegan-Michael Key

MADtv was where the genius minds of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele met and started collaborating. That initial collaboration has taken them to places that they likely never dreamed they would ever be.

Following Key’s work on MADtv, he went on to co-create the classic comedy Key and Peele. The show gained massive attention and accolades. Key also starred in the short-lived but hilarious series Friends From College.

1 Jordan Peele

Jordan Peele has truly seen his star rise since his days of doing Morgan Freeman impressions on MADtv. He branched out into writing with his film Keanu and of course with the hilarious sketch show Key & Peele. He then really found his stride with directing horror flicks with underlying messages and undertones. His directorial debut Get Out blew critics away.

Peele followed that up with the equally entertaining and chilling movie, Us and is set to release his third spooky movie in July 2022. The People Under the Stairs will certainly be getting a frightful facelift. Peele seems to just be getting started with his newfound career behind the camera, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store for them.
