10 Most Boring Partners The Main Friends Characters Had

The core six in the Friends cast clearly have a whole lot of game, as they all hooked up with plenty of people from the first episode of the show all the way through until the very last 10 years later.

Alas, their partners weren’t all particularly interesting, and in fact, quite a few of them could be described as boring.

Today, we want to list 10 partners of the main guys and girls in the show that just didn’t really get us jumping out of our seats for any reason. Sure, they were fine at the time, but that’s where the praise begins and ends.

10 Mona

It wasn’t exactly hard to see why Ross and Joey both liked Mona from the word go, because let’s face it, she was absolutely gorgeous.

Unfortunately, while she came across as a nice person, it just never really seemed like she had too much about her when it came to her personality. Perhaps we were missing something but overall, it was pretty clear to see that this wasn’t going to be the girl that Ross wound up staying with forever.

Maybe if she’d been with Joey things would’ve been different, but we wouldn’t hold our breath.

9 Bobby

While Bobby may have generally been a whole lot more fun when he had a glass of wine in his hand, we don’t think he was even that interesting to begin with.

Then, when fun Bobby turned into boring Bobby, it became clear that he wasn’t going to be around for all too long – probably because Monica saw the light.

He was a perfectly nice chap and probably could’ve had his story stretched out a bit more, but it was all slightly too serious for a show as light-hearted and silly as Friends.

8 Emily

Emily may have been the super interesting British girl in the eyes of Ross, but for the rest of us, we never really bought into that idea.

As time went on we all saw a very different side to Emily, eventually leading to her and Ross getting an incredibly premature divorce. We can’t say that Ross wasn’t a little bit silly on their wedding day, because he was, but instead of actually trying to make things work, Emily just seemed to add fuel to the fire at every available opportunity.

7 Julio

Ah, the empty vase.

Monica thought she’d struck gold when she got together with Julio, but as it turns out, she wasn’t special at all – she was just one of the many girls that he’d lied to and, in many ways, ridiculed.

They were only together for a short period of time, which was the only real silver lining here. Outside of his stereotypical ‘charm,’ he didn’t offer anything to the show, especially when you consider the fact that it was a comedy and he wasn’t funny in the slightest.

6 Carol

Some fans believe that Carol was actually a pretty interesting character to have around, but in reality, she cheated on her husband and pretty much acted as if she hadn’t done all too much wrong from that point on.

We never had any time for Carol or Susan, and her scenes were always so monotone and dull. If they’d have kept the first actress that played Carol as opposed to the one that actually took over, then we could’ve seen it working out. In the end, we weren’t quite so fortunate.

5 David

In terms of how long it went on for, the love story between Phoebe and David was certainly intriguing. They took ‘will they, won’t they’ to a whole new level by stretching the story out across pretty much every season of the show in some way, shape or form.

Unfortunately, when given an extended chance to flesh out his character, the show just didn’t really do much with him.

Phoebe didn’t treat him all too well when she left him for Mike, but fans forgot about that fairly quickly, which isn’t exactly surprising.

4 Kate

Kate came and went in the span of just a few episodes in the early days of Friends, with many believing that she could legitimately be the girl Joey had been searching for. To be honest, though, we never really agreed with that theory.

She was cold, she was rude, and she was never going to choose Joey over her own career. Joey would’ve been miserable with a girl like her, and the worst part was that she wasn’t even all that interesting.

The show was better off without her.

3 Janine

Aside from her physical appearance, we’re not entirely sure what it was that Joey saw in Janine.

The fact that she was a girl he couldn’t get quite so easily probably had a lot to do with it, and she has to be admired for that on some level.

But when you don’t get along with Monica and Chandler, it’s clear to see that they aren’t the problem – it’s you.

It was nice to see Joey get serious about a girl for once, but that was where the positives begin and end for her.

2 Paul

As much as we adore Bruce Willis and the manner in which he played the character of Paul, we just don’t think he is the sort of fella we’d like to go and have a pint with down at the pub.

Rachel tried to get him to open up, and when he eventually did, he just kind of made us all feel a little bit sad.

His comedic timing was on point whenever he was given the chance to really shine, but whenever they put him in a scene with Ross, it was like he was drowning.

1 Charlie

Ross and Joey both fell for Charlie in a big way, but again, we can’t quite wrap our heads around why.

She was nice to look at and was pretty clever, but nothing she ever did or said seemed particularly interesting. She was constantly carried by her fellow characters in any scene she was in, and while she was involved in some important storylines, that’s only really because she was being used as a plot device to further the Rachel/Ross/Joey angle.

It seems harsh to say, but we just didn’t really enjoy her presence on the show.
