Since its creation in the 1980s, Disney Channel has been a constant source of original programming for children of all ages. Over the years, they’ve come to be known for their unique comedy shows and of course, their iconic Disney Channel Original Movies.

With their shows regularly dominating the ratings in their age demographic and Disney Channel movies constantly breaking records it was only a matter of time before Disney Channel merged their comedy shows with their original movies. Since the mid-’90s, Disney has used Disney Channel shows for inspiration for original movies that have released in theaters, on Disney Channel, and even on Disney+.

10 Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) – 4.5

Despite Hannah Montana being one of Disney Channel’s most successful original series of all time, the movie wasn’t as favorable with fans according to IMDb. Hannah Montana: The Movie became the film based on a Disney Channel show to release in theaters.

The film falls into the timeline of the third season of Hannah Montana and follows Miley Stewart as she is forced to spend time in her Tennessee hometown after her father fears fame has gotten to her head. Despite the poor reviews, the film went on to gross $169 million at the worldwide box office making it a success.

9 The Suite Life Movie (2011) – 5.3

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody has quite the legacy at Disney Channel. The original series premiered on Disney Channel from 2005 to 2008 before it launched the spin-off The Suite Life on Deck in 2008 and eventually in 2011, twin brothers Zack and Cody got their own Disney Channel Original Movie.

The Suite Life Movie premiered in March of 2011 as part of the third and final season of The Suite Life on Deck. The film was set during the brothers’ spring break and followed Cody as he interns at a research firm that is studying twin relationships.

8 The Proud Family Movie (2005) – 5.4

An animated Disney Channel original series favorite, The Proud Family ran from 2001 to 2005, though the series only had two complete seasons. The Proud Family Movie served as the finale to the series and aired in August of 2005.

The film follows the Proud family as they travel to Legome Island. Their vacation is quickly derailed though thanks to an evil scientist who makes evil clones of the family in order to steal a formula Oscar has created.

7 The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003) – 5.5

Lizzie McGuire was one of Disney Channel’s more popular original series in the early 2000s. The series ran for two seasons over the span of several years. The series culminated with the theatrical release of The Lizzie McGuire Movie. This was the first time Disney ever released a film in theaters that was based on a television show. It’s also one of Hilary Duff’s most popular films of all time.

The film followed Lizzie (Hilary Duff) on her eighth-grade graduation trip to Rome, Italy. Upon arriving in Rome, Lizzie is mistaken for one part of an Italian popstar duo and is thus thrust into the Italian spotlight forcing her best friend Gordo to cover for her.

6 The Even Stevens Movie (2003) – 6.2

Following in the footsteps of its predecessors The Even Stevens Movie served as the finale for the Even Stevens show which aired on Disney Channel from 2000 to 2003.

The film follows the Stevens family as they go on an all-expenses-paid vacation. Of course, this vacation quickly takes a turn for the worse and the Stevens soon learn that they have been invited to the island to participate in a reality TV show and the family is split into two groups to compete against each other.

5 Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009) – 6.2

Wizards of Waverly Place was another popular Disney Channel original series in the 2000s so its no surprise that it got its very own television movie of its own. The film was so popular it became the second-most-viewed Disney Channel Original Movie at the time.

Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie followed the Russo family as they embark on a magic-free vacation. However, the family is forced to use magic when Alex accidentally wishes that her parents had never met and the wish comes true. Now it’s up to Alex and her brothers to reverse the wish before they disappear forever.

4 Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas (2011) – 6.4

Good Luck Charlie aired on Disney Channel from 2010 to 2014 spanning four seasons. During that time, the series landed its own Disney Channel Original Movie titled Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas which premiered in December of 2011 and marked the first time a Disney Channel show got a holiday movie instead of a special holiday episode.

The film centers on the Duncan family who have planned to spend the holidays in Palm Springs with Amy’s parents. Things take a turn when eldest daughter Teddy decides to give up her airline seat to prove that she is independent. When Amy realizes Teddy isn’t on the plane she too gets off. It’s only then that Teddy and Amy realize that there aren’t any more flights to Palm Springs until after Christmas causing them to have to embark on a road trip.

3 Kim Possible Movie: So The Drama (2005) – 7.1

Kim Possible was arguably Disney Channel’s most popular animated original series during its initial run. The series was so successful it inspired two made-for-TV films including Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama.

Released in 2005 as part of the show’s third season, Kim Possible Movie: So The Drama follows Kim as she struggles to find a prom date after she realizes that fighting crime has made her unavailable to every boy except Ron. In the midst of this, Kim’s father gets kidnapped by Drakken who lets him go after getting the information he needs to beat Kim Possible once and for all.

2 Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe (2020) – 7.2

Phineas and Ferb have had quite the run on Disney Channel. The series originally ran from 2007 to 2015 and has amassed 222 episodes in that time. In addition, the series has led to a couple of films including Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe which released on Disney+ in 2020.

The film follows brothers Phineas and Ferb as they attempt to rescue their older sister Candance from aliens. Despite coming out in 2020, the events of the film fall in the fourth and final season of the series.

Coming as the highest-rated Disney film inspired by a Disney Channel original series is Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension. Released in 2011, this was the first film released as part of the original series.

After discovering that their pet platypus Perry is a secret agent, Phineas and Ferb get sucked into an alternate dimension where Doofenschmirtz has managed to outsmart Perry and is now the ruler of the tri-state area.
