Javicia Leslie’s new Batwoman costume may have been revealed through DC FanDome promotional artwork. The new season of the Arrowverse drama will enter new territory that other shows haven’t before as Leslie will be taking over the lead spot from Ruby Rose. After portraying Kate Kane in season 1, Rose announced in May that she wouldn’t be back as Bruce Wayne’s cousin for season 2. Rather than recast the part, the creators decided to create a brand new character in the form of Ryan Wilder that will debut in Batwoman season 2. While it’s unknown what causes it, Kate will be going missing, which will be a plot point in season 2.

As Leslie becomes the new leading star of the series, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding her character. With no ties to the DC Universe or anyone on the main cast, Ryan will be an original creation for the Arrowverse. While the actress has shared on her Instagram that she has been doing costume fitting, it hasn’t been specified yet if Leslie will be wearing the same suit as Kate wore or if they’re doing a completely new look. While Batwoman’s DC FanDome panel got moved to September, Jim Lee may have given fans a sneak peek at what she’ll look like in the suit.

In a massive DC Multiverse promotional artwork that Lee drew, several members of the Arrowverse can be seen joining the rest of the DC Universe. In one shot, being right next to Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl is Leslie’s Ryan Wilder in her Batwoman outfit. It remains to be seen if the exact design will be applied for the live-action iteration. While it looks mostly like Kate’s version of the suit, there are a few notable differences that separate the two heroines.

For starters, the cape’s interior design is now completely red, which is what Kate’s comic costume looks like that didn’t transition for The CW version. The gloves are now also featuring a lot more red compared to what Kate was wearing as her gloves and gauntlets were completely black. Additionally, it seems that Leslie’s character may not be sporting the red wig as part of her disguise as Kate did. The design is very similar to a popular fan-art that came out after Leslie’s casting by ScaryKrystal. If this ends up being the exact design for the live-action version, it would be a solid redesign.

However Ryan takes over the mantle, it will start in the Batwoman season 2 premiere as she begins to protect Gotham City. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Batwoman panel in September might reveal Leslie in the full costume as well as other details for the new season. The new season of Batwoman is currently scheduled to premiere in January 2021, along with several of the other Arrowverse shows.
