9 Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows
A sequel to the critically acclaimed Sherlock Holmes in 2009, a sequel starring mostly the same cast released, giving fans a supposedly final look at the story of Sherlock Holmes, as a darker villain, the iconic Red Skull to his Captain America, the Thanos to his Iron Man.
Professor James Moriarty surfaces and seeks a battle of wits, which quickly evolves into physical and violent nature, involving the legendary Reichenbach Fall and more disguises, tricks, and camouflage up Sherlock’s sleeves, all while dealing with John Watson’s wedding at the other hand. A box office success that also won the hearts of many of its viewers.
8 Murder On The Orient Express
The 2017 remake of the Agatha Christie novel shattered the box office with a star-studded cast, involving Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, and Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley. Involving a murder of Edward Ratchett (Depp), who was stabbed multiple times. Now, there is a limited number of culprits, given that they are on a train, which is narrowed down to the remaining members of the first-class cabin, all of whom have aliases during the murder, which are confirmed by others. This Netflix-exclusive follows a cop and wife, who go on a trip to Europe to reignite the spark in their marriage and end up being framed for the murder of a billionaire, on whose yacht they were present at the time of his murder. Adding a more comedic element, which is ever-so rarely seen in murder mysteries, this film manages to contrast the comedy-suspense of the plot perfectly, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, this is a must-watch for all comedy and suspense fans out there. 6 Shutter Island
While Martin Scorcese is more associated with making gangster movies, he pulled off a masterpiece in Shutter Island, starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Mark Ruffalo. Set in the 1950s, a US Marshal investigates the escape of a killer from an institute for the criminally insane. Said to have one of the best twists in a film to-date, this is a must-watch for fans of all genres of movies, and one you’ll love, maybe even more than Knives Out, but that’s up to you, entirely.

An adaptation of Dan Brown’s famous book series by the same name, a symbolism professor, Tom Hanks, is dragged into a murder at the Lourve, but things are much more complicated than they seem. Shocking discoveries and new revelations lead them deep into the world of Christianity and may expose details, changing the whole religion, forever, with supposed secret societies playing a big role in the film as well. Launching a trilogy based upon the works of Dan Brown, this film started a series with a large fanbase, with its gripping plot, cast and stunning places of the shoot, making it award-worthy, to say the least.
4 Angels And Demons
The sequel to the critically acclaimed movie, Angels and Demons dives even deeper into the world of Christianity and secret societies more than ever. Taking on Vatican City itself, involving the secret society, the Illuminati, in the true essence of its predecessor, it holds off the identity of the true villain until the third act and has Tom Hanks return as Robert Langdon, which was destined to not go wrong. The second film to the trilogy of Dan Brown’s book adaptations, and still managing to break box office records and practically stomp over its competitors.
3 Inferno
The final in the trilogy follows Robert Langdon, one final time as he uncovers the location of a viral plague-like disease, set by a lunatic billionaire, Bertrand Zobrist, along with a local doctor (Felicity Jones). With connections to Dante’s Inferno and the human perception of hell, the films keep the audience on two feet, as a constant confusion amongst the true identity of the villain, and the nature behind it all, which no one can seem to get, and is kept a large mystery, up until the last moments of the film, where details are revealed and sacrifices are made.
2 Gone Girl
When a man’s wife goes missing, intense media coverage and constant spotlight show that things are not always as they seem and that he may not be innocent. Ben Affleck stars alongside Rosamund Pike in a film considered the very best of cinematic experiences and considered having the most unexpected twists in the history of film, with its unique genre and star-studded cast, it seemed as if very less could go wrong, and considering the $300 million box-offices, it seems very less did go wrong, as Ben Affleck showed his versatility and variety as an actor.
1 Jack Reacher
The two-film series starts with the first being Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) investigating the murder of 5 random people by a military sniper, which is considered one of the best action films to date. A series of unfortunate events and angry families of the victims step up as obstacles for him exposing that everything may just be more than what meets the eye.
