With the spooky season quickly approaching, it will soon be time to start streaming a few scary movies, specials, and other Halloween treats for the screen. But for those younger audiences out there looking for more of a milder thrill, Disney has them covered in spades with some not-so-scary tricks and treats.

Granted, Disney is no stranger to horror, but their family-friendly nature has their catalog loaded with more wholesome material better suited for all audiences. That all being said, these movies never fail to get fans in the spooky mood just in time for All Hallows Eve.

10 The Adventures Ichabod And Mr. Toad

Truth be told, it’s the second half of this Disney package film that earns a spot on the list. No Halloween would be complete without at least one version of one of the tale of Ichabod Crane and his encounter with the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow.

It might be a little darker than some entries on this list, but its balance of humor and horror is what keeps it being watched and read year after year. It says traditional as carving jack-o-lanterns, eating popcorn, and putting on favorite costumes. Viewers can’t go wrong with something this traditional.

9 The Nightmare Before Christmas

When it comes to Disney Halloween movies, no film flies its flag higher and prouder than The Nightmare Before Christmas. Anything by Tim Burton is a solid choice for Halloween binge-watch, but this stop-motion fantasy is at the top of many fans’ lists.

Right from the opening credits, this movie practically drips with Halloween goodness. Ghosts, pumpkins, skeletons, and more are the focus until Jack discovers the colorful realm of Christmas Town. Simply put, it’s a festive and freaky flick that covers all the bases.

8 Frankenweenie

Whether it’s the original short film or the stop-motion feature-length film, Frankenweenie is a horror comedy for all ages. In this humorous take on the Frankenstein mythos, a brilliant science-obsessed boy brings his beloved dog back from the dead and havoc ensues.

While the stop-motion film is a well-deserved hard PG, the short film is a great example of Tim Burton’s early work and much more user-friendly. It’s a great chaser to something like The Nightmare Before Christmas.

7 Underwraps

The Disney Channel was no stranger to great Halloween flicks, and Underwraps is one of their first and finest. Not the first friendly monster movie from Disney, but one of their most underappreciated, the made-for-TV movie features a group of kids trying to reunite a reanimated mummy with his dead princess before succumbing to an ancient curse.

It’s not going to break down any barriers, but it’s a fun Halloween-themed adventure that viewers young and old can enjoy. With notes of movies like The Goonies and The Monster Squad, it should fit right in with other classics involving kids, creatures, and lost treasures.

6 Blackbeard’s Ghost

For something more silly than spooky, Blackbeard’s Ghost comes highly recommended for those looking to laugh their way through Halloween. After accidentally summoning the infamous pirate out of Limbo, a track coach must help the ghost of Captain Blackbeard perform one good deed to rest in peace.

The reason to watch this weird and wild adventure is for Peter Ustinov as Blackbeard, easily a standout performance even next to Dean Jones. It’s a great film for fans of Disney history or those looking for some pirate shenanigans outside of Port Royal.

5 Monster’s Inc.

Since every Halloween is better with a few good monsters thrown in the mix, Pixar’s Monsters Inc. is a great film to watch for those without the taste for the Wolfman, Dracula, or Frankenstein. Not only that, but the idea of huge, scary monsters from the closet being terrified of children never ceases to be a comedy gold mine.

While they might be more popular with a younger crowd, Mike and Sully’s misadventures with Boo land well with older viewers as well, particularly fans of Disney’s “other studio.” It’s lighter, but not without its merit.

4 The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Witches and wizards are also a key ingredient for some Halloween magic, and if viewers are looking for something a little weirder than the typical fantasy flick, they can never go wrong with a little Nic Cage. While the movie is a far cry away from the Fantasia sequence that inspired it, the over-the-top nature of the affair is more than enough reason to give it a watch.

It’s very creative in its presentation of different wizards, witches, and magic users, and the scene with the mops would definitely make Mickey proud. It might not be a strictly Halloween movie, but it fits in wonderfully in terms of visuals and story.

3 Coco

Although it’s technically a movie about the Day of the Dead, Pixar’s Coco is a perfectly satisfying addition to anyone’s Halloween watchlist. Easily one of the most vibrant and colorful movies on the list, Pixar’s journey with Miguel through the Land of the Dead is one that tugs on the heartstrings as much as it tickles the funny bone.

Despite its undead cast members, the film is certainly larger than life compared to something like Monster’s Inc. But its personality is exactly what a good Halloween fiesta needs to shake things up.

2 Boo To You Too Winnie The Pooh

Sometimes, a little bit of nostalgia goes a long way, and there are few things more nostalgic than trick-or-treating. Add in Winnie the Pooh and all his friends, and it’s a recipe for all sorts of Halloween sweetness. Young viewers will absolutely eat this up like candy, but adults who grew up with the silly old bear have a soft spot for it as well.

The special is pretty much what the title implies, a Halloween Night in the Hundred Acre Wood. While Piglet is wrestling with his anxiety over ghosts and goblins, Pooh and the rest of his friends get wrapped up in hijinks scaring themselves silly. It’s a simple kids’ special, but it’s one that comes with a case of warm fuzzies for any viewer.

1 Halloweentown

When it comes to classic Disney Halloween movies, Halloweentown should be at the forefront of everyone’s radar. It’s a ’90s gem, a Disney Channel staple, and a yearly tradition for many Disney buffs.

Every year, viewers continue to be enchanted along with Marnie and her siblings as they follow their Grandma Aggie to the whimsical world of Halloweentown to stop an evil warlock’s fiendish plot. Though it’s a tad kitschy by today’s standards, it’s a movie that radiates a purely festive, orange-and-black saturated aura of the season like nothing else.
