The magical world of Netflix’s fantasy series Locke & Key is a lot of fun to watch, but fans have some questions about some plot holes in season 2.

When season 1 of Locke & Key ended, fans had many questions and couldn’t wait a second longer for the next season. Now that viewers have gotten a chance to watch season 2, they’ve caught up with Bode, Kinsey, Tyler, and Nina, seen some sweet family scenes with Duncan, and learned more about the powerful, magical keys.

But while season 2 is exciting and action-packed, as Ellie comes back and the mystery of Gabe/Dodge is explored, fans have many questions about confusing plot holes that don’t seem to be easily explained.

10 What Happened To The Dollhouse?

Bode is the one who discovers the Small World Key and finds out that he can use it to open the dollhouse, which looks like Keyhouse Manor. This is super cool since it means that the characters can make changes to the dollhouse and they will be reflected in the real house.

Reddit user WingedShadow83 wonders “how did the dollhouse even wind up outside of Key House?” and continued that a character “said he bought it at an antique shop or something, but how?” The fan mentioned that families have always owned Key House so it doesn’t make sense that this dollhouse ended up somewhere else.

9 How The Lockes Treat The Keys

Fans had expectations for Locke & Key season 2, and viewers knew that the magical keys would of course be heavily featured in these new episodes. But some fans don’t think that the characters treat the keys properly or even take them seriously considering how dangerous some of them can be.

One Redditor posted that they’re confused about “How often they just lose or forget about powerful magic keys that probably shouldn’t be out in the world for anyone to find.”

8 Gabe Stealing The Ghost Key

It’s a wild twist when fans find out that Dodge has been appearing as Gabe, Kinsey’s crush and classmate, and this is one reason why fans were so excited to check out season 2. There is one main plot hole involving Gabe, though, that fans aren’t so sure about.

The same Redditor asked a question about Gabe stealing the ghost key “before they find out he’s evil” and asked, “Does that not set off red flags?” The fan wonders if Bode figured Gabe would give it back, but even that explanation is a bit confusing.

7 How Can Ellie Return?

Ellie is one of the most well-crafted characters, and it’s interesting and sad learning about her history with Rendell. Locke & Key’s scariest moments include the Locke kids throwing Ellie into the Black Door, thinking that she’s Dodge.

While it’s good news that Ellie is back in season 2, not everyone is sure that it makes sense. Reddit user Tiesolus has some questions about Ellie returning, asking “why the door opened at all if a key was made to specifically seal it, and why she re-appeared UNDER the rubble and not a demon.”

6 The Characters Should Take The Anywhere Key More Seriously

The keys are one of the best parts of this Netflix show since they offer excitement and make it seem like anything could happen at any time. But some fans don’t like how the Locke children handle the Anywhere Key in particular.

Reddit user Elegant-Umpire7385 thinks that the characters are “careless” with the keys including the all-powerful anywhere key. The fan wrote it’s “literally the key to bringing demons back to life” so the characters should protect it more.

5 How Does The Omega Key Work?

While the rules of the magical keys are explained throughout both seasons of the show, fans are still confused about the rules, especially when it comes to the Omega Key.

One Redditor asked “why did Ellie get out without the omega key” and continued, “If you can just ‘dig’ around the cave and things get out, why you need to omega key anymore?!”

4 Why Not Make A Deadly Key For Gabe?

Duncan and Gabe are two of the most compelling Locke & Key characters for completely different reasons. Duncan is a kind-hearted uncle to the kids, and it’s fascinating watching Dodge hide as Gabe.

One Redditor mentioned the scene when Duncan is making a key for Gabe and is confused about why Duncan wouldn’t “use his own intention to program the key to kill game or put him to sleep as soon as he uses it.” Another Redditor called this “my biggest pet peeve this season.”

3 Couldn’t The Lockes Bring Their Dad Back To Life?

One Redditor posted that if someone can “create an echo and then stab them with the Alpha key” then someone returns to human form. Couldn’t the Lockes do that for their dad and for Jackie?”

Based on the logic of the series, it would seem like Bode, Kinsey, and Tyler could bring Rendell back to human form. There might be an explanation for this, but it’s still something that is worth thinking about since it seems like the characters would want their dad back more than anything else.

2 Why Don’t The Kids Try The Memory Key On Their Mom?

When looking at the personality types of Locke & Key characters, Nina is struggling the most, dealing with her grief and how to raise the kids on her own.

Reddit user ollymillmill asked why the kids never use the memory key on their mom as she’s “in extreme danger.” This is definitely a good point and it would have been interesting to see how this played out. Bode does give Nina the Memory Key at the end of season 2, but why not use this before?

1 The Season 2 Ending Is Confusing

Fans always have high expectations for a season finale, especially for a show with fantasy elements and wild cliffhangers.

Not everyone was pleased with the final moments of Locke & Key season 2, with one fan wondering if the ending seemed too happy and the Lockes don’t fully understand how evil Eden was. Reddit user nextgain20 asked, “Why did all the lockes forget about Eden at the end? Like, ‘wooo! Gabe/doge is gone!’ high fives all around…’ There’s definitely nothing else we need to worry about now and can get on with our lives.'”
