10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

With several young adult book series up for adaptations lately (including Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Leigh Bardugo’s The Grishaverse), it’s always interesting to look at other favorite series and see what else would be good for a TV show or movie adaptation. Some long-running favorites have adaptations already in the pipeline, like Tamora Pierce’s Tortall universe. It’ll be exciting to see if the creators’ visions match up with fans’ predictions.

Therefore, here are 10 recent young adult series that it would be amazing to see an adaptation of. Hopefully, there will be more industry news for everyone soon.

10 The Diviners by Libba Bray

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

By Libba Bray, The Diviners follows teenager Evie O’Neill in 1920s New York as she helps her uncle solve a mysterious series of murders. Her uncle Will is an occultist, and Evie has a secret power of her own. As the series goes on, she meets others with powers; they call themselves the Diviners.

Ultimately, they must discover more about the mysterious King of Crows. This series is about a fascinating time in history, and with the added fantastical mystery elements, it’s hard to imagine someone wouldn’t be instantly hooked.

9 Renegades by Marissa Meyer

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

Considering all the superhero content being released lately, Renegades is a perfect series for an upcoming adaptation. Written by Marissa Meyer, it concerns a series of superheroes and their villains.

Called Renegades, these prodigies rose up and rebuilt society. Nova, however, has reason to hate the Renegades, and she’s getting closer to her target with every passing day. With its morally grey storyline and characters, Renegades is fitting for a television series.

8 Soldier Girls by Michael Grant

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

Soldier Girls imagines a world where women were conscripted by the U.S. to fight in World War II. It’s fairly historically accurate and follows different fronts of the war through the eyes of three different girls: Rio, who is in the army, Frangie, who is a medic, and Rainy, who’s in intelligence.

The large scale of the novels, as well as the inside view they give of the U.S. Army, should endear this series to an audience interested in military history and stories of women proving their own strength.

7 The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

Kestrel, a young woman living in a brutal empire, buys Arin, a slave whose eyes seem to hold more of her world than she knows. When the only options for her are getting married or joining the military, Kestrel has other plans.

The Winner’s trilogy is a strong choice for an adaptation, as it is a popular series with a devoted fanbase.

6 Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

The Lunar Chronicles combines two fascinating genres: Fairytales and science fiction. Linh Cinder is a second-class mechanic in New Beijing. The prince, Kai, asks her to help fix an android.

This simple act begins a wide-reaching plot with a massive cast of characters who fight against Levana, the Lunar Queen. Each novel focuses on a different character and a different fairytale.

5 The Folk of the Air by Holly Black

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

The Folk of the Air trilogy was one of the most popular series of the past few years. Jude Duarte is mortal but is determined to earn her place in the world of faerie.

After her parents’ deaths, she and her sisters were taken in by the faerie, and she plans on staying in their world. Jude’s life is also entangled with that of Carden, the youngest and cruelest son of the High King.

4 The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

Growing up, Blue Sargent was told that if she kissed her true love, she would kill him. Born in a family of psychics, Blue is drawn to four boys who are on a quest to find the sleeping Welsh king Glendower in their town of Henrietta, Virginia. Henrietta sits on a powerful ley line and is therefore key to their quest.

3 Arc of a Scythe by Neal Shusterman

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

Arc of a Scythe features a world where old age and disease mean nothing. Now scythes are the only ones who kill, in order to maintain population control.

Rowan and Citra are both invited to become apprentice scythes and must master the art of taking life. The world is, however, quite similar to current America, which makes the concept that much more intriguing.

2 Graceling by Kristin Cashore

10 Recent YA Series We Want To See Adapted

Some people in this world are born with Graces, or super-enhanced abilities. Katsa was Graced with killing. She works for her uncle, one of the kings of the world, as his assassin, and hates it. Along with her cousin and group of friends, however, Katsa leads rebellions in other kingdoms, where conditions are poor.

Katsa and a new friend, Po, must investigate the kingdom of Monsea, especially when they have to take care of the 10-year-old princess, Bitterblue. This series has a refreshing take on femininity and would be a gorgeous series if adapted.

1 Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

In the world of Three Dark Crowns, three sister-queens must battle for the throne of Fennbirn every generation. Each sister has her own special talent that is meant to help her succeed: Katharine is a poisoner, Arsinoe is a beastmaster, and Mirabella is talented with the elements.

This story would make a lovely miniseries, especially as each book is a bit shorter than the one before it.
