10 Romances On Netflix That Should Be Made Into Shows

The key to a good night is yummy snacks and a great Netflix romance, but these addictive flicks come to an end way too soon, leaving a Netflix-shaped void in viewer’s hearts. From teen love stories to historical romances, these titles have it all, and sometimes their plots are so compelling that they could easily be fleshed out into great TV shows.

From seriously interesting premises, to compelling characters and new universes to explore, these movies have huge potential and more than enough material to become full-fledged series for audiences to enjoy.

The Perfect Date

10 Romances On Netflix That Should Be Made Into Shows

This Noah Centineo, Cami Mendes, and Laura Marano starrer was adapted from the book The Stand-In by Steve Bloom, about a young man, Brooks, who decides to pay his tuition at Yale by becoming a plus-one on rent via an app.

Viewers and fans of Centineo especially would love to see some funny and disastrous dates in each episode, if The Perfect Date were a show, and how he handles each situation, with a steady build-up of his romances with Shelby and Celia.

Always Be My Maybe

Sasha Tran and Marcus Kim’s decades-spanning chemistry and romantic gestures in Always Be My Maybe captured hearts, especially with their struggles to get over their individual complexes and accept each other in adulthood.

Their love story was nostalgic in the best way, with flashbacks of their high school years which would make for great television and a tender friendship (again) which would turn into love. Sasha’s restaurant business was kind of thrown in at the end, so that could be elaborated on, along with Marcus’ acclimatization to her success.

Holidate

10 Romances On Netflix That Should Be Made Into Shows

Besides being one of the coziest holiday movies to stream on Netflix, Holidate had a lot going on, stuffed into the short run time of a movie. Sloane and Jackson meet over a whole year’s worth of festivals and holidays, bonding until they fall in love eventually.

Extending the minute-long snippets of them hanging out at these parties into full episodes, replete with tense romantic moments and hilarity, of course, could make for a cute comedic romance, where lovable characters like Daisy and Liz could be explored further too.

Tall Girl

With a reported sequel in the works, Tall Girl proves that it has potential to be a lot more than just a standalone rom-com movie. Jodi’s struggles with being an unusually tall girl deserved much more than a few frustrated outbursts and prank calls form her friends.

Everybody loves a slow-burn romance, and the bestfriend-to-lover trope in this movie would make for a truly satisfying one for viewers to watch, and maybe Jodi could even bring up how sexist the standards are for height when it comes to men and women.

The Last Letter From Your Lover

10 Romances On Netflix That Should Be Made Into Shows

The epistolary movie, based on the eponymous book, had so much material that it could be made into a couple of seasons of historical mystery easily. Every flashback on The Last Letter From Your Lover was poignant and beautiful and worth exploring more.

The premise itself was extremely compelling, beginning with a woman who had no memory of who she was and a cold husband whom she didn’t recollect. Viewers could follow her journey as she slowly uncovers her double life and her secret lover over the course of many episodes, with some sabotage thrown in by her husband.

Someone Great

10 Romances On Netflix That Should Be Made Into Shows

Someone Great has an inextricable relationship with music (see the Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lizzo songs), a trio of amazingly supportive friends, and the warmth of female friendship when it uplifts and empowers.

Jenny, Blair and Erin lead enriched lives by themselves — Jenny was a budding music journalist, Blair a social media manager, and Erin a real estate agent — and had some very saucy love lives as well. The characters themselves were absorbing, and Jenny’s arc, along with the love lives of the other three friends would make for entertaining TV.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

10 Romances On Netflix That Should Be Made Into Shows

The release of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before created waves for several reasons: the depiction of Korean culture, the film’s breakout stars, and the adorable chemistry between Peter and Lara Jean (besides all the likable main To All The Boys characters) without being contrived were just some of them.

As a TV show, the franchise could explore the consequence of each and every letter, how Lara Jean’s crush on them developed, and how their receipt in the future would play out. Kitty Covey’s character could also get more of a spotlight in it.

Rebecca

Based on the Daphne Du Maurier’s novel of the same name, the gothic romance was not received favorably by critics and fans of the book, but maybe it could have had Ben Wheatley imagined it as a limited series.

Rebecca is an enchanting tale of horror and grudges, with the titular character thrown into the midst of it all, an unwitting target. As a show, the slow discovery of the reality of Mrs. De Winter, the house’s secrets, her death and her husband’s past would have been absolutely delightful, with the romance between the Rebecca and Maxim, of course.

Isn’t It Romantic

10 Romances On Netflix That Should Be Made Into Shows

Finding oneself in an alternate dimension (think The Good Place) has lately become all the rage in television, so Rebel Wilson-starring Isn’t It Romantic becomes the perfect candidate for a short show: one where Natalie is stuck inside rom-com universe and has to figure her way out.

As a show, her various attempts at getting out, coming up with theories, and falling for some of the wrong guys on the way would be quite amusing to watch, especially with Wilson’s Adam Devine’s signature humor and chemistry.

The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

Another Lily James movie, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is the best of history and romance, with so much going on on both ends that it could fill up several days worth of filming.

The very origins of the book club are fascinating, and could be delved into much deeper, followed by the letter exchange between Juliet and Dawsey. Juliet’s ladder to success as a female author at that time could get some screen time, and another slow burn entanglement, fraught with tension and misunderstanding could easily make for some Downton Abbey-esque entertainment.
